"Hualtulco? Yes. Dreams? Maybe not again."

6.0

We stayed at the Dreams Huatulco during our recent trip to Mexico for spring break. It was a mixed experience and I will try to highlight both the positives and negatives. First, the check-in experience was good - staff were welcoming, helpful, and friendly. We arrived around 3:30PM and our room was not available for another hour so we found a snack and explored a little around the resort. This was a bit annoying as we didn't have access to our swim gear or a change of clothes. It wasn't immediately clear why our room wasn't available, but we later found out that the previous occupants had negotiated a late checkout. Again, this was annoying and the communication could have been better - not the greatest first impression. Once we got to the room (an oceanfront Preferred Club room), we found it to be clean but well worn. The beds are very springy, i.e. when one of us rolled over, the other was sure to feel it. Overall, everything worked well in the room, but I had to reconnect the cable to the TV to pick up any channels. We found the food to be hit and miss - the buffet options were honestly not great. We found the options in the buffet were often lukewarm and the variety pretty limited. The service in the buffet venues was quite good, and they did make my son french fries when there was nothing else he would eat. The a la carte dining options were better (we tried both the Seaside Grill and Himitsu) - food quality was improved with similar service experiences. Bar service was generally quite good with limited line ups, friendly bartenders. My son especially enjoyed the ice cream and pretzels available at the Coco Cafe. Poolside experience was good, but I will highlight that the pool chair game is in full swing with many folks getting up as early as 5AM to claim pool chairs for the day. We were always able to find one (because we only needed one), but if you need more than one be prepared to wake early and rush to the pool to stake your claim. Lots of folks were complaining amongst themselves about this - we decided to join the game instead. My son enjoyed the poolside oversized chess board, which was surprisingly well used. The beach was absolutely beautiful and the location on Tangolunda Bay is the highlight of this resort. Snorkeling right off the shore is available and the resort has a number of water activities available including kayaks, paddleboards, sailing lessons, etc. My son really enjoyed the school of fish that live next to the rocks right at the shore, as well as the lizards that live in the rocks at the end of the beach. Nightlife was honestly too noisy for our liking. Our room directly fronted the plaza where live music and various theme nights are held. The noise generally shut down right around 10PM, but that's a little late when you're traveling with a kid who likes to rise early. What surprised me is how few people were attending these theme nights (aside from the ones that replaced the World Cafe as a dining option, i.e. Oaxacan Night, Caribbean Night). We found ourselves wondering why the resort would negatively impact the stay of the clear majority for the benefit of the 25 people who were actually attending these live music events. Did it ruin our stay? No, but it was a definite annoyance. In short, will we return to Huatulco? Absolutely, but I think we'll try a different resort next time around.

"Fun family trip"

10.0

We had a great trip at Dreams Huatulco! The views & pools were amazing with plenty of activities. Our daughter loved all of the activities she was able to do with the Explorers Club! There was something to do all day long & you can tell a lot of thought was put into creating a fun experience for the kids. Daniela, Beni, Gaby & Melissa were so kind & welcoming.

"Huatulco is old Mexico charm"

10.0

what a beautiful part of Mexico! Huatulco is like old Mexico with a quiet charm where you feel very safe and the pace is slow and the sun is hot given how close you are to the equator. We were fortunate to hook up with a local guide named Oscar from top tours. Huatulco definitely recommend you visit the magic waterfall and do the turtle release if You have never done it before. This property seems to have an abundance of happy and pleasant staff, which means you never really have to wait in line for anything. The only downfall would be the glaring lack of beach chairs. I was very surprised that I had to get up as early as 5:30 in the morning to put personal items on the chairs. Otherwise, you wouldn’t get anything all day. The Staff are great about trying to help locate chairs, but it’s frustrating that it feels almost like the panic of the pandemic where everyone rushes out to save a chair for the day when the sun has not yet risen. This property also boasts Six pools of which two are adult only. There’s one that’s definitely geared more towards little people and then another one located across from the Japanese restaurant that I would call the cocoon pool filled with Lots of super seniors and a very quiet vibe if that’s what you’re looking for. So many options and variety. There are three large pools that overlook the ocean and each one has a different vibe, including music at one. We really liked that this property did not make you wear wristbands and restaurants were first come first serve with buzzer if you had to wait. definitely loved the vibe in huatulco and was pleased with our choice of properties.

Great location but becoming over priced. You really can’t beat the laid back beautiful location but the hotel needs some up grades and the food quality has gone downhill and the option are becoming limited.

"Best holiday stay !"

10.0

Both myself and my wife loved this resort ! From the breathtaking views while sitting in one of the three oceanfront infinity pools to walking along the wonderful beaches it was absolutely amazing! We tried each one of the restaurants and never once had a bad meal, and every morning enjoyed a coffee that Fernando made us in the Coco cafe! Have to shout out to Leonel A. And Fidel at reception they both were so kind and welcoming all 10 days ! Eddie and the crew working the pool side drink service were phenomenal, the mango Mescalitos just kept coming !!!! To the housekeepers you all went above and beyond to ensure the room was always clean and the turndown service was extra special ! Thank you to all the staff at Dreams Huatulco you made our stay memorable we will definitely be back again !

"Beautiful beach but won't ever go back."

4.0

Just got back from holiday at Dreams, and sad to say I will never go back. Its a 3 star experience. Those 3 stars are for the wonderful staff, beach, pools and entertainment. The hotel is very old and outdated, but clean, and the food is horrible. However, shout out to the Italian restaurant, very good food and service, we ate there twice. I ended up having an upset stomach for 4 of my 7 days. Watched a staff member in the Seaside Grill take dirty glasses off of a table, swirl some water in them and use a napkin to wipe off the rim of glass and put it back out on a table! As well, went to the gym every morning, no AC, it was cooler outside. I did really enjoy the daily water aerobics, staff made it really fun. We did really enjoyed the beautiful beach and loved the International and Mexican night entertainment, they were excellent and beautiful costumes.

"Hyatt - Dreams Huatulco Resort and Spa Review"

4.0

We have travelled to Huatulco, Mexico since 1994, more than 12 times. We have stayed at the Dream Huatulco hotel when it was formerly run by Royal Maeva, Royal Gala and then when it was rebranded to Dreams by AM Resorts and have never had an issue getting sick. But, now the Hyatt Dreams Huatulco Resort and Spa is running the hotel the past 2 years. And while it is nice to see fresh floral arrangements and a few improvements to the hotel....the food, drinks and other areas have declined. Our current stay at Hyatt Dreams Huatulco was from February 24 to March 3, 2026. We travelled with 2 other couples. These friends booked the Dreams Huatulco hotel because I promoted the previously high standards in location, cleanliness, 7 pools, beachfront, lounge chairs, towel service and very good food served at 5 restaurants on site. Two of us in our party got terribly sick, among at least several more guests we spoke to during our week there. More than likely from the poor food handling and preparation. The staff, especially at buffet and some restaurants DO NOT practice proper hygiene in providing clean glasses, cutlery, utensils etc. Rarely did we see food servers, especially at the buffet area, washing hands while preparing foods, like eggs or omelets or serving foods. Food was not always hot, when it should be and lukewarm when it should be cold. Staff clean table after table with the same dish clothes. We actually saw servers return glasses, while another helper rinsed them in water only and gave the glasses back to be put back on a table. We spent several days, in our rooms trying to overcome nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps. My friend was so ill, that thankfully the hotel had a Doctor available. It cost them $16,000 peso (approximately $1200 Cdn). The Dr. provided the necessary medications to help our friend and others get better in 2 to 3 days. The hotel did provide steamed rice and a plate of steamed vegetables, to our rooms, to compensate our dietary restriction. This is important to note: My party of 6, was informed by two managers on our last day at the hotel that our concerns regarding food preparation and food areas, are taken seriously. IDK!!! He said, food safety is a fundamental pillar for them and they have a third party quality standards that is suppose to guarantee the quality of their products. Our suggestion....get another third party company with much higher food safety standards and staff training on food preparation and handling. Get more dish washers! Rooms are dated but everything worked well in the room. Our balcony had a hot tub, but I would not get into that thing. Prior to Hyatt takeover, the bathrooms had a tray of beautiful and fragrant products; shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body cream, sunscreen, as well as soap bar. Now it is cheap soaps, conditioner in dispensers and a tiny bar of soap. The hotel is easy to get around, especially for older clients, except getting down to the beach area...that would be challenging. Lots of pools, but if you want a lounge chair, pool front, you better get there way before 7 am and stay in the chair. If you go back to your room, other guests will have hotel staff remove your towels and personal belongings, which you will find in lost and find area. If you choose to come down later in the morning, you may not get a lounge chair pool side, or they may not have any more towels (because some folks that have ¨Privileges not only get orange towels, but will have extra set of brown towels too. If you are lucky to get a lounge chair, then they may not have an umbrella, so be sure to bring lots of sunscreen 50 with you. Preferred guests also have a whole section of beachfront that seems to have lots of beachfront chairs and loungers, so they do not need to reserve, but we saw them also have poolside chairs....unattended and that is not right. Maybe the hotel should reinstate towel card system...how about computerized tracking, instead of paper and pencil tracking. Dreams Huatulco needs LOTS more palapas and lounge chairs on the beach to accommodate clients who prefer to be on the beach. This hotel holds some wonderful memories and times spent over 12 years for my family, but we feel Hyatt management as cut so many corners and not focused on cleanliness, good food and its preparation and handling that we will still come to Huatulco, but try Barcelo next time. Not sure I would recommend this hotel any longer and nor do I feel it is a 4 or 5 star. What you will like about this hotel: The staff is very nice! Super nice Try breakfast from Oceana Seaside restaurant, outside with a beautiful view. The Japanese restaurant also very good Nightly entertainment on some evenings is good but short. Usually done by 9:30 pm The Smoothie and Espresso bar is great. They serve ice cream there too. Our favourite entertainer: Ben Indi (@benindimusic ) at poolside from 4 pm to 5 pm twice a week. He is awesome! Infinity pools overlooking Tongalunda Bay....beautiful. I am sorry to say, I wish I had a more favourable review.
