Pacific Grove Inn

Beautiful inn. Excellent customer service. I had lots of questions and they were very patient, available, and thorough. I was at the top level, so lots of stairs.

Clean charming Victorian house

The inn was a beautiful, old Victorian building that very well kept. The bed was very comfortable. The location was great.

The check-in process was terrible. There was no staff on site to check guests in. You have to use a phone on the front porch to call them. Then you have to give them your credit card # over the phone before they will give you the codes to get in the front door and your room. It's on a street that's busy during the day, and you have to speak up over the phone. Pretty much everyone walking down the street can hear your credit card #.

Pacific Grove Inn is very conveniently located in Monterey a short walk from a bunch of yummy restaurants, and a short drive from the downtown area with the aquarium. The inn itself is very cute with comfortable beds and possibly a fireplace (my room did have one and it worked and I was very grateful). The room was cozy, the common space was cute and they did offer some coffee and tea. And a communal fridge and microwave to use which was useful. I received several communications from the property about their parking and rules and so forth which was extremely helpful.

Checkin was fairly easy although they did have me call them to provide more information since the booking came via booking.com and the person on the other end was very hard to hear, but we made it work eventually.

Did not like two flights of stairs to carry a heavy suitcase up and down. Site should list stairs. I was there for a week, leaving most mornings around 5:00 am. No refrigerator in rooms so difficult to have ready access to milk or yogurt. Would be great for 1 or 2 nights.

the location and the room are great. a nice walk to lovers point. close to some good dining spots. room was spacious and the property qas cool with nice common area to relax and eat if you wanted. I think there's a kitchen to actually use which is super cool. while it is ocean facing, calling it an ocean view might be generous

the check in process was much more like an AirBNB. no staff on side. self check.in. however, with that said, having on site staff would certainly increase the cost of the room.and not sure it's worth it. packing spaces under the pergola is tight and no one seems to be able to stay in their lines.
