"Top spot in Edinburgh for food drink and accommodation. Especially the cocktails."

10.0

We stayed in the black suite. What an absolutely stunning room. The staff are all absolutely fantastic, from the receptionist’s to the waitrons to the bar staff to the hostess. The cocktails are incredible the food is 5* Any query or question no matter how big or small the staff are on it immediately. Flawless is an understatement. I have stayed here many times from the cheaper rooms to the more pricey. All are well worth the money. I’ve eaten and drank in the bar even more times. Never had a bad experience and couldn’t reccomend Tigerlilly high enough.

"Disgusted by the ladies loos!"

2.0

I've been frequenting Tigerlily since it opened around 20 years ago and always recall every occasion without fail the toilets were either blocked or left without toilet paper and girls always complaining and it falling on deaf ears with staff. Fast forward 20 years and me now in my 40's and I was left even more horrified with what I witnessed on Saturday hence me finally resorting to this review to hopefully prevent others having such an unpleasant experience. There used to be approximately a dozen cubicles (if not more) and usually always occupied on a Saturday night, often with a queue. But they have now decided not only to lock half the cubicles but those that were open were in an absolutely shocking state. There is simply no excuse especially as less cubicles to manage than before. The frst cubicle I was shocked to find had vomit blocking the toilet (it was only 3pm in the afternoon!), second toilet had no toilet paper as the dispenser was jammed, third had no wallpaper on part of the wall and excrement half way up the pan. It should not take me 4 cubicles later to find one that was usable. I was so disgusted by the whole experience only to then wash my hands and was not able to wash off the soap as the tap had no water! It took me until the third tap to find one with running water. Then once it came on, it just wouldn't stop. I feel your whole toilets need condemned, ripped out and new plumbing and flush buttons installed. I appreciate other customers shouldn't be leaving toilets without flushing (if the flush works!) but equally you shouldn't be running such a so-called "classy" establishment on George St, if you don't have enough staff to carry out regular checks on cleanliness and toilet paper stocks. McDonald's burger joint manage to do hourly written rota checks so I would suggest management implement this too. I hear there may be a change in ownership these days but I always thought the Montpelier Group should have had the best trained staff and management with having the Montpelier "training school" but my experience has never been impressed over the years including Rabble and Indigo Yard which has the same poor toilet experience (eg. watered down liquid soap and using napkins for toilet paper as they'd run out!). Customers pay a lot for food and drink in Tigerlily so it should not be much to ask to provide clean toilets, toilet paper and running water in your toilets. I went to reception to politely complain and was met with two young girls looking at me like I was an alien, not knowing how to handle the situation, other than to say someone else had also just complained, so it confirms I wasn't the only one to be horrified. I dread to think what tourists must think especially the hotel guests. I was there not by choice but for a friend's private function and Saturday re-confirms why my friends and I no longer choose Tigerlily as our go-to bar in town. Clearly by the lack of investment in the toilets shows there is no care and it's had its day.

The breakfast was delicious and staff members were very friendly and helpful, especially Martin, Megan an Jules. The location was perfect for sightseeing. The room was a nice size, the bed was comfortable and the shower was great. I particularly appreciated the hair straighteners and bathrobes and slippers. Overall experience was excellent.

Lovely public areas, big bedroom

Although we upgraded ourselves to a luxury room it was missing little essential things like hooks for coats, hooks for towels etc in bathroom, tiny wardrobe squashed into corner by bedside table so a manoeuvre needed to get in it. Coffee machine was awful - coffee was not good. Breakfast lovely but don't be in a rush - seemed to take forever.
