Heritance Kandalama

The view over the lake and of Sigiriya is fantastic. The wildlife around and on the hotel makes it feel part of landscape and was wonderful to experience

This is a hotel aimed at large groups or package tourists and not independent travellers. It's geared towards moving people through not for relaxing and enjoying the space. Despite the wonderful views the only place outside with shade to enjoy them was a strange concrete seating area that felt more like a waiting room - we termed it the carpark. despite the lovely pool there were only 16 sun beds available for a hotel that has 152 rooms. There's a lovey terrace on the top floor but this is reserved just for weddings and events. there's a second pool at the very far end of the hotel, but this doesn't have a view and has only 6 sun beds and no shade - it looked tired and a little sad when we visited it. So stay for a night to experience the architecture and wildlife, but I wouldn't recommend it for any longer. It feels outdated and a little run down

A hotel i will never forget , absolutely brilliant . The hotel is surrounded by forest and the lake . The view is breathtaking

Amazing location, deep in forest and completely blending in to surroundings. Room / suite was spacious and comfortable. Bawa tour was excellent to hear about the architect behind the design.

Half board includes buffet dinner, one evening this was excellent, the next one many of the dishes were cold, so a lack of consistency. Seemed to depend on number of guests. Experiences are not well publicised and cost is not published eg in website.

Exceptionnelle architecture de Geoffrey Bawa parfaitement intégrée à la nature. Cet hôtel mérite le détour pour la visite. Par contre il a grand besoin d’être rafraîchi. Les chambres sont vétustes.

とにかく建物が素晴らしい。どこを切り取っても絵になるし他にはない空気感。何度もYouTubeなどで見たが本物はまた格別。スタッフも皆さん感じが良く手入れも行き届いていました。本当に快適な滞在でした。

ほぼありませんが唯一スイーツが甘すぎて口に合いませんでした。他のお料理は全て美味しかったです。

We recently returned to Heritance Kandalama as a family, having last visited over 20 years ago, and it remains just as remarkable as we remembered. The setting is simply magical, seamlessly integrated into the surrounding landscape and overlooking the reservoir. It is one of those rare properties where the architecture and natural environment come together in a way that feels both timeless and unique. Our entire family commented on how special the atmosphere is. The rooms are very well maintained and comfortable, reflecting careful upkeep over the years. The pools were also well maintained and a pleasure to use. What truly stood out, however, was the exceptional quality of the staff. Across all areas, including the front desk, restaurant, bar, and housekeeping, the service was consistently warm, attentive, and highly professional. A special mention to Damith, who managed the cleaning of our rooms exceptionally well and took the time to check in on our family throughout the stay, which was very much appreciated. The restaurant experience was also excellent. The team was attentive and welcoming, and we particularly enjoyed the staff member preparing fresh hoppers each morning. We would also like to recognize Sagarika, who provided exceptional service, checking in on us and even bringing tea to our room to help my mother when she was feeling unwell. Several members of our family used the spa, which was an excellent experience and a welcome addition to the stay. Overall, this is a world-class hotel that continues to deliver a memorable and high-quality experience. It remains one of the most special places we have stayed, even after all these years.
