Heritance Ahungalla

The pool, the staff at the poolside bar, pool staff were lovely.

We had stayed in Sri Lanka for over 3 weeks and at many different accommodations and always felt cared for, guests were put at the centre of everything. We did not get this from Hotel Ahungalla. We felt that they do not focus on the guest experience and wanted to take extra money at every opportunity. It was the only place we stayed at where filtered water wasn’t available and you had to buy extra bottled water at a cost of LKR 500. We asked for a late check out as our new flight was leaving at 1am, we were advised this would cost $100 USD. After much negotiating, which was not where we wanted to be, they allowed us to keep our room. It made such a difference to the start of our really long trip home to UK via Bangkok! It was a gift they could have easily given to us, with the current situation. The food was very mediocre and over priced and the cleanliness was not there.

We had a great time staying here at the end of our Sri Lanka trip. In fact, it was extended by a couple of days due to flights being cancelled..... what a place to be stuck in 🤣. The staff were excellent especially Trilishiya who ensured that we had our room for another couple of days ..... I've still got the lucky coin that she kindly gave me and I will treasure it! My partner has a food allergy and the chef walked her through every dish to ensure it met her needs. Absolutely brilliant. What a great setting right by the beach. Thank you so much.

The hotel was so beautiful and the location was incredible. The beach is swimmable and great. My family enjoyed themselves so much. The food was also delicious, and the staff were really welcoming. This was my favourite stay for the entire trip!

We asked for a triple room and the additional bed was rock hard and very uncomfortable. This needs to be fixed!

While the dedicated staff does their best, excellent service cannot compensate for the poor condition of the hotel, and the owners should definitely reinvest in renovations.

The overall condition of the complex does not reflect its star rating and price. Most notably, the property is very outdated and, in my opinion, in need of a complete renovation and new furniture. There are no entertainment options in the hotel or the surrounding area. The beach is nice, but due to the large waves, no one goes into the sea, leaving the beach largely unused. We had an incident during our stay, and the hotel was kind enough to compensate us with a much nicer, larger room and a free dinner. I am very grateful for their handling of the situation. However, no matter how good the customer service is, it simply cannot make up for the poor state of the facilities

The hotel architecture, the setting and the staff all were top notch.

It was difficult to get in and out of the tub in the bathroom in order to take a shower. There’s a built in step to help but the step itself could be slippery which increased the chance of falling. Also, there were sliding doors in the bedroom which closed at night to keep out light. We tried but could never do it ourselves because one of the doors was off it’s track, so each night we had to call housekeeping to help.
