"I loved it"

The room was comfortable. I love the history of the hotel, high ceilings with the old metal ceiling panels. The owners stay on the property and are available if there is a need. It felt like visiting old friends. The bed was cozy, the room was spacious. I wish there were more hotels that felt like this one. Breakfast was simple continental, yogurt, cereal, bagels and cream cheese, fruit, juice, cow and almond milk options. There was a restaurant walking distance if you wanted something more substantial. The next time we're nearby and need a hotel room this will be our choice. Oh, and did I mention the old school door key? I loved it.

The view from the window faced the building next door which was not in the best condition.

The gentleman who works there is so nice and helpful with suggestions on where to go to eat or to give directions. We enjoyed our stay. The only thing is that the tub is a little slippery. A bath mat would solve that problem.

I gave The Courtland an "excellent" rating not because it is excellent in the same way I would rate a 5-star Hilton in downtown Portland, for instance. This is an historic building, in an historic part of Ft. Scott. It is run by ordinary folks and everything in that neighborhood is, well, historic (or old). So, it doesn't have glitz but it does have charm and it is peaceful. I would stay there again if I ever return to Ft. Scott. The owners are wonderful people.
