The noise

Breakfast was real let down !! No hot plates for food , putting hot food onto cold plates is a no no for any establishment let alone a hotel .Fried eggs only bought out about 10 at a time which for a que of people waiting was no where near enough . By time first 6 people through eggs ran out and people had to wait for more eggs to be cooked and bought out while their hot food they had put on cold pkares went cold until next lot of eggs were brought out . No orange juice which again was not replenished quick enough

Grounds

Lovely setting, beautiful grounds and historic building. Leisure facilities nice in need of some maintenance and repair in places, but swimming pool and hot jacuzzi to ourselves for a while. The rooms are away from main house are clean and fairly modern but very small and no air at all. Toilet didn’t flush properly and no working extractor fan. Had to use the waste bin as a bucket to flush water down the loo. As the bin was already wet i assume housekeeping and previous guests do the same thing. Windows only tilt open 1” and in 30 plus degrees heat the room was unbearable. No air con just a small cheap plastic fan that moved hot air around. So although beds comfortable absolutely no sleep, way too hot! Staff were friendly but not very well trained in hospitality. Reception made complete hash of our arrival didn’t realise we had paid extra for early check in didn’t know if room was ready, didn’t authorise a charge to our room which caused serious embarrassment later on. Turned up for our afternoon tea which was booked months ago, as part of the package. We had deliberately avoided breakfast and lunch, only to be told it had been cancelled because of a wedding but didn’t tell us. Told its going to be manic in here so no time and no food supplied for the tea. Really think we should have been told there was going to be a wedding during our stay and it will likely cause problems with service. At least giving us the option to change our dates. So went to the bar to get sandwich. Staff completely messed the sandwich order up no matter how many times she asked what i wanted she just couldn’t get it right, still bought wrong food out. Charged for food i didn’t order tried to insist i had extra food i didn’t want then tired to give it to someone else who also didn’t want it. Told staff room Number to charge room, went to leave got accosted in front of other guests asked to pay up of course not an issue paying but embarrassing. Same happened at dinner which was supposed to be included as part of the package. Again asked for room number. Left at the end of the meal went for a walk around the grounds only to have the waiter literally chase us across the lawn again in front of everyone accusing us of leaving and not paying. Had to prove we were actually staying guests for 2 nights. Was taken back to the restaurant to pay. Completely humiliated, waiter very apologetic and nice about it and told me it was because reception never authorised our room. Apparently due to a new member of staff who probably doesn’t know the system and make sure we “kick their arse” before we leave! Food was ok nicely cooked a little overdone in places. However was given wrong dessert and then told me they didn’t have the dessert i ordered which was approximately £12, so knocked off £5 portion of chips, not much of recompense. All in all a pleasant ok stay in beautiful surroundings with lots of potential, but rooms need plumbing fixing and air con or different windows that open fully. Plus a manager who will speak to you when you complain. Manager refused to come out of the office. Hospitality is amateurish for the style and salubrious nature of the place. Need to up their game on staffing and professionalism.

The tiredness and lack of flexibility

The room was unbearably hot due to a very small opening window and being on 1st floor. We couldn’t sleep at all and had to prop the front door open to get some air flow. The room was beautiful but very uncomfortable

Stayed here recently room was unbelievable tidy and needed a extra towel and saw a staff member named Debbie and she couldn’t of done anything else more for me asked me if needed anything else she would be very grateful to help couldn’t fault this worker anymore very professional of her should be very proud to have this employee work for this hotel

The Heating system was left on timer and the radiator was on full temperature setting which was on all night. The maintenance man could not turn it off so i had the room door wide open all night. There was a light in corridor which lit up the whole room so I was extremely hot and in almost daylight. I did not get any sleep which is the point of booking a room. I complained to the management who promised to get back to me but 3 days in and no phone call or email. No contact whatsoever except from the reception staff. I would not recommend staying here in the summer as they cannot turn off the heating system. Very disappointed in the whole experience and certainly should get a refund but that does not seem on their agenda.
