"Traditional Hotel, Friendly and Comfortable"

8.0

Great location in Penrith town centre with a small car park at the rear. I was fortunate to get a parking space as there was only one left when I arrived. Check in was straightforward and the reception team were really friendly and welcoming. The receptionist on check out was polite enough but no where near as friendly or helpful. I liked this hotel because it had a tradional feel to it. I was attanding a wedding reception and it was a fantastic evening. The toom I booked was a single room which was well equipped, clean and comfortable. It was a small room but had absolutely everything you would need and more. Whilst there is no lift, in this hotel, there is a stair lift for those with mobility issues. The night porter was really helpful and friendly and worth mentioning too. He provided exceptional service even though it was silly o clock in the morning. If you are staying in Penrith, give this hotel a try.

Great facilities in room plenty of plug sockets, liked lights on mirror and coffee machine. Comfy bed.

The receptionist gave us the wrong post code over the phone for the car park, and we ended up imiles away and was nearly late for the wedding.

"A mixed bag."

7.0

The staff were very welcoming. The public areas of the hotel were well furnished with lots of comfortable sofas. The evening meal was good although the speed of service was poor. The complimentary, homemade bread was excellent. The room itself was nice but not outstanding. Breakfast was good although the sausages weren't the nicest we've ever had.

It was claimed that our room was recently refurbished. I think their definition of recent differs from mine. I do not think the refurbishment happened in 2026. Also, the room was about as far away from Reception as you could possibly get. Not ideal when the temperature was approaching 30°C, you're in motorcycling gear and have to carry all your luggage upstairs, down narrow corridors and through (I think it was six) fire doors. The food service was slow; our booking was at 7:30pm, we did not get our drinks until 7:50pm and our food was not served until 8:30pm. We had only ordered main courses; it does not take an hour to cook two meals so there is an improvement to be made here.

Perfect location

Car park a tight squeeze, no disabled parking. Could do with a major clean in the rooms. Especially the bathrooms. Breakfast was not the greatest selection and took far too long to bring out oat milk when requested to the staff in the morning. This should be on the table near the cereal so people have the choice.

"Disappointing"

6.0

The bar/reception/dining area is lovely, warm and cosy and it’s like stepping back in time. Another plus point is that there is no music on, so you can all hear each other speak! Where it lets itself down is the service and food/drinks unfortunately. The service staff were miserable and didn’t make you feel welcome with a nice smile! We ordered four Pimm’s and Lemonade (£6.75 each), which said… “A quintessentially British cocktail made with Pimm’s No. 1, mixed with refreshing lemonade and garnished with fresh cucumber, mint, orange, and strawberries.” None of us got any cucumber, orange or strawberries! We only got mint, and one mint sprig was really droopy and didn’t look appealing at all! It was promptly plucked out of the glass! One of our party ordered the Falafel and Beet Ciabatta (£12.25), which said… “Falafel served with roasted beetroot, hummus, pickled red onion, carrot strips & rocket.” There was no beetroot! We did ask about this, and the server went to check, and came back with a bowl of beetroot (not roasted) and said, with a laugh, “the chef always forgets the beetroot!” We know, because the same happened the last time we went! So, an average score overall because the furnishings/ambience are nice.
