"Nice, cosy place in Staten Island"

10.0

We stayed here for one night and we loved the place! It is a very cosy, comfortable and clean old house with lots of character. The manager/owner was very nice and welcoming but also let us keep our privacy on the entire floor. The rooms were high quality and extemely clean. It was so cosy, it really felt like home. He left a tray with coffee and breakfast in the morning on the table, which was such a nice surprise. This place is definitely great value for money-it is step away from the ferry that gets you into Manhattan 24/7 for a free ride.Would recommend to everyone!

"not a mirage"

This is for real -- an affordable bed and breakfast connected to Manhattan by a lovely ferry ride. The innkeeper was very nice. The house was classic and the rooms were clean. I will definitely be back.

"Excellent place for NYC sightseeing trips"

8.0

At a first glance, the neighborhood looked a bit frightening, but room and breakfast were excellent, the ferry is just five minutes away. If you want to do sightseeing in NYC for some days without paying Manhattan hotel prices - this is your place and the ferry brings you to the NY's financial district in twenty minutes, day and night, for 0 $!

"New York on a budget"

8.0

As first timers to New York and could not afford Manhattan prices, we found Fort Place to be a ideal base. It was exactly as described by the majority of the other reviews, clean, tidy and spacious. Paul the owner was very helpful, even though we did not see him very often he was available if we needed him. It was 5min walk from the Statten Island ferry (which is free andruns 24hrs day and usually every 1/2hr check times). The ferry takes 20mins and the views of Liberty Island and Manhattan are superb. There is a big difference between the hussle and bustle of Manhattan and peace and quiet of Statten Island, which we liked. We purchased the 7 day New York Pass online(whilst in the UK) $145 pp which gave us free admission to all the top tourist attractions and more (well worth every penny) no queing for tickets and sometimes fast pass entry. We also purchased a 7day metro card $27 pp again worth every penny as you can hop on and off the subway/busses as and when. During our 7 days we visited the majority of the Tourist attractions and found time for shopping. It was fantastic to see New York during the Festive season, it was everything we imagined it to be and would definately recommend it. We are looking forward to going back maybe during the summer time.

"NYC's Best Kept Secret"

10.0

I choose Fort Place Bed & Breakfast on the basis of other reviews from Expedia. I travelled with my mum so thought that accomodation away from the hussle and bussel of Manhattan would be preferable. The trip on the Staten Island ferry each day was fantastic and the 15-20 min free trip was a great wind down after spending a long day in the city. The B&B is a short walk from the ferry terminal. The welcome was great even though we arrived later than expected. I only booked 1 room but as we were the only guests he let us have a room each on the top floor which were very spacious and full of character. We had a complimentary breakfast of bagels and fruit each morning and a key each so we could come and as we pleased. All in all I would strongly recommend staying here especially if you would like cheaper accomodation than city hotels and you don't mind riding the ferry each day.

"A hidden gem"

10.0

The hotel looked a little run down, as did the area. But the inside was stunning! The room was beautiful, spacious and very welcoming. We stayed on the ground floor and the room had previously been a drawing room (or similar) and had fantastic, genuine period features such as decorative coving and a massive fire surround. We had a kitchen with all mod cons (including a huge fridge that came in very handy for keeping a refreshing beer in) and a small, but very nice bathroom. The host made sure our stay was perfect, even delivering breakfast to our room promptly at 7.30am each morning. This consisted of fresh bagels, fruit and coffee and was enough to set us up for the morning ahead The bed was huge, with beautiful, fresh, clean linens on. It was a really pleasant change to have real sheets ect instead of duvets. (although even one of those was provided). At the front of the hotel, our host had kindly provided a small area with leaflets and guide book that proved very useful throughout our stay and after ensuring we were comfortable pretty much left us to our own devices, but was close on hand for help and advice. In fact He also booked us a taxi back for the airport too. To anyone thinking of using this as a place to stay whilst visiting Manhattan...........don't be afraid of being 1/2 an hour from the main action. The ride on the fantastic Staten Island ferry everyday is amazing.

"Staten Island Ferry makes this place a treat!"

8.0

The hotel was in a quiet street, a ten minute walk from the ferry terminal. The room was lovely - large, light and comfy. Breakfast was brought every morning for us to share in peace in our room...very civilised!

"Convenient to Manhattan"

8.0

Parking was hard to find, due mostly to the street construction that was going on. Two block walk to SI Ferrry which was great. Old type shower but water pressure was great. Breakfast was a bit slim but good, consisted of a pot of coffee, two bagels, a few pieces of fruit. A small refrigerator had an old piece of pizza in it when we checked in. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned out in a while. Couldn't get much on the TV which I thought was strange. A/C worked well. Overall a positive experience.
