"Centrally located, quirky hotel"

6.0

Hotel is in excellent location just off Nemsky Prospect. The entrance is off putting as you go up three flights of run-down stone stairs to get there, but once inside it is very pleasant. The main staff members are extremely helpful and welcoming but some others working there were a little off hand. On our last evening we couldn't get into the hotel as the receptionist was taking a break on the balcony and didn't hear the door bell. We were stuck outside for 10 minutes until another guest let us in. The room was quite small and not particularly comfortable.

"Great location"

Not the cleanest place, but in a great location. They need to invest in one more quilt and sheet for the beds.

"Good location"

6.0

The hotel's location is great. Right next to Kazan Cathedral and Nevsky Prospekt so can walk everywhere in the centre easily. 15mins to Hermitage, 25mins to Mariinsky and also near metro and lots of nice places to eat and drink. The hotel has a stylish and quirky feel and one afternoon we took tea in the main room which was really lovely. The two business rooms we booked were fine considering the price but we did have a very leaky shower in one and sheets that didn't fit the bed in both. The twin room had air conditioning which was good as it was very hot! The service and breakfast is quite disappointing though. Staff were generally unfriendly, a restaurant booking we'd planned in advance was not made correctly and we were given no towels one day and told to wait til the morning. Breakfast spread was well replenished but there was a limited choice and the same old fruit every morning was off putting. A good value, central place to stay but not very welcoming.

Hotel isn't fancy, but has a lot of character and is a good way to experience St. Petersburg that's not your typical characterless hotel. Be warned -- it's a fourth floor walk-up, so pack light!

"Charming and quirky but indifferent service"

6.0

The Rachmaninov is very nicely located just behind Kazan Cathedral and just a few minutes walk to one of the liveliest sections of Nevsky Prospekt. It is a charming place full of arty, antique and quirky touches. The very young staff are friendly and speak a fair level of English. However, they displayed a lack of competence with regards to the checking-in procedure and also concerning the registration of passports. Futhermore, although quite pretty, the rooms are fairly basic - no aircon, no safe etc, and also, I think it should be more clearly highlighted that there is no lift at the hotel requiring quite a hefty walk up 3 flights of steps. All in all, if I were to recomkmend this hotel I would do it on the basis of its location and its charm but not necessarily on its overall level of comfort

"Great hotel for a city break"

8.0

Fantastic location just off Nevsky Prospect, 10 mins walk to Palace Sq, 10 mins to St Isaac's, and importantly less than 10 mins to one of the best new places to eat in St P (not expensive) - Zoom on Gorohovaya st, rated No 1 on Trip Adviser. Hotel is full of character with interesting furniture and great breakfasts - definitely not the soulless modern alternative.

"Really comfortable, enjoyable hotel"

10.0

Had a fantastic stay! Most of the staff were really friendly and very helpful. Everything was reasonably priced and the staff helped with visa invitation/registration. They were also very helpful by email before my stay. I was able to borrow a hairdryer. The breakfast was lovely and the seating room really enjoyable to sit in and have drinks. Thank you so much! :)

"Great location"

10.0

Really enjoyed our stay at the Rachmaninov very quaint hotel with a great location.A few steps to walk up to the third floor though. Able to walk to most churches and museums. Nice restaurants close by , ask hotel staff. Not a lot of English in Russia. Found a really nice restaurant around the corner from the Church of the Spilled Blood called IIAPKb. Haven't a clue how to pronounce it though.

"Wonderful staff"

Great place to stay in st Petersburg staff friendly, very helpful and lovely. Delightful Georgian restaurant directly across the street. However, be prepared for a 4 flight walk up. Rooms comfortable and very clean. Good value. Would definitely consider on a return visit.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff were extremely helpful. For an older person I thought the steps were going to be a problem. They may have been a benefit forcing a different type of activity than normal for me. The location was perfect - close enough to the major city sites to walk.Breakfasts were good and a nice opportunity to speak to other guests.
