The Landsby

The Landsby is a beautiful, comfortable respite after drinking wine in the Santa Ynez wine country. The staff is very welcoming, the food and drink delicious.

The hotel is centrally located in Solvang, which promotes itself as the most Danish city in the U.S., though to us it felt somewhat like a staged theme setting. Check-in was efficient, and the breakfast area was cozy with a Scandinavian touch. The bed sheets were clean, and amenities such as an elevator and on-site parking ($20) were convenient and appreciated.

The rooms are quite worn and do not reflect the photos on Booking.com, making the high rating hard to justify. Poor ventilation (windows don’t open), a very soft mattress, and noticeable noise from creaking floors and neighboring rooms affected our stay. Given the cost—over $400 for two rooms—the value was disappointing, especially compared to newer Hilton and Marriott stays at similar prices. We left feeling tired and underwhelmed.

Our stay at the Landsby Hotel had some highlights, but unfortunately it fell short in a few key areas. We stayed in the Village Suite, which was very nice—spacious, well-appointed, and featuring a large patio that was perfect for relaxing. It was right in town, making it an easy walk to everything. The staff was also friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated and that it was dog friendly. However, the experience was significantly impacted by noise issues. We could clearly hear everything from the room above us, including very loud and constant bedroom activities throughout the night, which made it impossible to get any sleep. You could also hear the children next door running around like they were in a playground. It was surprising and disappointing given the otherwise upscale feel of the hotel. There were also some cleanliness concerns, like finding a dirty towel in the bathroom upon arrival, which shouldn’t happen at this level. Additionally, we were frustrated by the extra fee for parking in the lot directly outside our room—even as hotel guests, this felt unnecessary. Overall, while the room itself and the staff were positives, the lack of soundproofing, cleanliness oversight, and added fees made it difficult to fully enjoy our stay.

Absolutely stunning hotel! Grounds were super clean. Enjoyed the Mad & Vin restaurant located in the lobby area. Outdoor area is beautiful and tidy.

I didn’t realize i booked such a fine hotel. I just wanted to be somewhere in town. It turned out to be the best ever!

Absolutely loved how centrally located The Landsby is to everything we wanted to do and see. Upon arrival, our dog was greeted with treats and poop bags. We had brought our own bags, but always nice to have extra just in case! The room faced the garden so it was nice and quiet with area to roam. Since we came during the week, we had a fire pit all to ourselves in the evening. The hotel staff were all friendly and welcoming. Our dog was even welcome to join us inside the bar, allowing us to eat inside on a chilly evening. The bartender brought her over water ahead of us asking. Well prepared! The comfortable beds, large shower and overall atmosphere will definitely have us booking again next time we visit the town. I’ve already recommended the hotel to a friend traveling to Solvang soon.

Cozy vibes! Great staff! The outdoor area is so nice. The room was wide, comfortable.
