first time going to Mexico, spent a lot of money to get here, was supposed to be a special 10 days break with the kids and wife.
lets start with the arrival , when we got there there was a massive queue ad the staff were just super slow at getting this sorted , there was 2 people on the check in desk and they could of put more on there to get the queue down, i think it took nearly an hour to check in.
we then got taking to our room in a buggy and the rom was actually pretty nice, big bunk beds for the kids and a huge super king size bed (bigger than any bed i have ever slept in. The bed was comfy and the room was clean.
Air con worked and bathroom was decent size , safe , fridge with beer and soft drinks also a bottle of bubbly on the side as a welcome, this took off the pain of the wait at check in. we dumped our stuff off an went for a look around the place, our room was quite close to the main reception so it was a short walk down to the beach and pool. Now im used to going to spain etc for an all inclusive so to get to a resort midway through the day , i wasnt expecting to get seating anywhere but thankfully we maaged to find seats , the sunbeds were decent and in good order, pool looked clean and had pletny of shade (so far so good!) Beach was also beautifulwith plenty of beds. We had our towel crds and got our towels. ready to relax and enjoy our first xmas away ! our peace was ruined by the constant barrage of people trying to sell you massges , pictures with wil animals etc , This isnt the hotels fault as they cant stop people coming onto the beach, (we did eventually go for a massage later on in the trip but be aware you need to barter as they charge you tourist cost unless you push back). It didnt stop the whole holiday and became very annyoying by the end. We didnt sit on the beach as much as we wanted due to the constant amount of people trying to sell stuff. this didnt stop when you got to the pool as the tour operators that were linked to the hotel then pestered you for stuff, We used another person down the beach and the guy from the hotel was a bit offended we didnt use him !! Was a bit awkward seeing them every day after. We saw loads of other parts of the hotel we wanted to visit but then saw that this was Royal elite only (this became a constant annoyance due to TUI who we booked through had included pictures of the beaches and parts of the hotel that Royal elite users could only use so we felt this was massivly missold to us by TUI (we later found out that if you buy timeshare you get upgraded to this but that was over £5k to do this and we were not going to spend this extra money on a timeshare) Twe then tried to book some ala carteoptions as we had heard the buffet wasnt the best , anyther thing that TUI didnt mention. now if you book through tui, good luck getting a reservation at a decent time or even getting one as the Ropyal elite members get priority over everyone that has the standard green wrist bands, the royal elite members know how bad the food is in the buffet so they book all the decent restaurants up every day, (we even saw royal elite members just coming in and then leaving as they would book more than one restaurant an evening so they could decide whst they wanted, this became a real joke and very frustrating , i complained constantly rto TUIm via the app and got nowhere, Hotel didnt really do much other than tell us to constantly keep looking to see if you could book if someone cancels!! We did end up eating in the brazzillian restaurant (was ok but not amazing , the one on the beach which was similar level although the setting was lovely, the steeak restauarnat was really good ,but this was nigh on impossible to book and we only got really poor times if we managed.) The mexican buffet restaurant ws probably the best option but was always very busy. We were told many people got sick from the main buffet and i could see why , the food hygien by the guests was terrible , nobody used tongs , kids touched all the foods with their hands sometimes touching it then putting it back , was terrible it beacem so bad we literally felt we had ocd with the amount of anti back , we eventually got sick from the food as it was nigh on impossible to not eat at the buffet (i complained to TUI to get blanked on the app , although TUI did give me a voucher back on my return to the UK due to the food and the mis sold hotel but i had to completely kick off with TUI to get this)
one huge selling point is the amount of wildlife in the hotel , the monkeys racoons etc were amazing we saw everything and i wont forget those as it was a beautiful place to see them.
Waterpark was ok but you wouldnt go there with older kids for longer than an hour or so.
all in all the hotel was a bit chaotic but we had a decent enough time , the staff were lovely , i never had issues with any of the staff, would i book here again ..? no due to the food and the tier system.
Tui still have the pictures of all the royal elite sections (daybeds , private pools , private beaches etc you cant use which i find really bad)
If you look at other reviews you will see people saying about being sick , we saw it and was very wary of it but once i was there i could see why they had so many issues.
When there do book excursions from Chris (hes to the left of the beach where there is the jet skis and a mental belgian malinois dog that wants you throw huge coconuts for him to catch) . We went to chchinetza and it was an amazing day out , we also swam with turtles and this was decent but quite expensive we had a good time on both the excursions though.
Massage is just past chris and they were one of the best massages i had ever!! My kids went on the jetskis and they loved them so much they did it twice.
is this a 4 star resort ? well if you could use all the royal elite parts then it would be but if you book through TUI its a 3 star at best. i felt more let down by TUI than the hotel to be honest, TUI did sort of make it right by giving me a voucher towards my next holiday to make up for it but after seeing they stil, havent made it clear on their website what you actually get i fell they are really mis selling the place.
