The Roseate Reading

Got there at 12, of course too early for check in. Perhaps they were full up and cleaning rooms? I returned about 2pm and the unfriendly receptionist(youll know her when you see her) just stared at me until 3pm when the concierge took my bags to the room. I ran after him and he took me back to reception to get a key. He told me the room had been vacant all day and she just wouldnt let me in. Surely, i'd done all the paperwork and if the room was ready they might earn a few customer satisfaction points and let the customer have the room. It costs them nothing and their rating would increase. Careful if they shove you into one of the freezing rooms in the blocks behind that are on the back lane. Better options around for the price!

Great central location. Very spacious room with an enormous bathroom. The room was spotless. Friendly staff. Would stay again.

Absolutely amazing experience every time I visit Aheli Spa at Roseate Reading. Spa Team is very professional, caring, welcoming and customer focused. I highly recommend to visit. I myself keep returning there over and over again.

As I explained in my review of the restaurant, I came here for lunch on my way to church. The staff were very friendly, the service was amazing and the food and drink were excellent. I intend to return again soon.

A lovely hotel with fantastic staff, we thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu with wine flight, beautifully presented and with lovely attention to detail- we even received complimentary Prosecco and a specially decorated plate of chocolates and strawberries as it was our anniversary! Not a cheap meal but well worth it, there don’t seem to be any other fine dining restaurants in Reading!

My husband and I recently stayed in one of the apartment, based in the House, that form part of The Roseate Hotel in Reading (formerly Shire Hall), which is advertised as a 5-star property. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to that standard. The apartment itself was a good size, but it felt tired and in need of attention. It didn’t require a full refurbishment, but it would really benefit from a thorough clean and some basic maintenance—such as touching up scuff marks and addressing general wear and tear. The bathroom in particular had mild issues and the rails were tarnished possibly due to poor ventilation, and overall lacked the finish you would expect at 5-star level. Small details were also missed—sadly there was no milk provided for tea in the morning, which speaks to a lack of attention to detail. That said, the reception staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay, which we really appreciated. However, even the reception area itself appeared a little tired, which set the tone on arrival. Overall, while the staff were a highlight, the accommodation fell short of expectations for a property marketed as 5-star.
