I stayed at The Legend Chiang Rai Boutique River Resort and Spa and honestly it ended up being one of those places that just feels easy from the moment you arrive, the hotel sits right along the Mae Kok River and is surrounded by a lot of greenery so you really feel like you are tucked away somewhere peaceful rather than in a busy town, what surprised me most is how well they maintain everything despite being in such a lush tropical setting because usually when a hotel is this close to nature you expect insects or things to feel a bit humid and worn out but here it was the opposite, the grounds were clean, the pathways were well kept and the room was spotless the entire time I stayed, my room was very spacious much bigger than I expected with high ceilings lots of natural light and enough space to actually relax instead of just sleeping and leaving, the bed was very comfortable and the whole layout made it feel private and calm, the bathroom was also large and very clean which I always appreciate, housekeeping did a great job every day and you can tell the hotel takes cleanliness seriously and even being surrounded by trees and the river I did not have issues with insects in the room which is impressive for this kind of environment, service here is genuinely great and the staff are friendly in a natural way not overly formal or forced, from check in to small requests during the stay everyone was helpful and polite and it made a difference because when you are somewhere quiet like this good service really completes the experience, they are attentive but not intrusive which I personally prefer, the atmosphere of the whole property is very relaxing and walking around in the morning by the river is peaceful while in the evening the setting becomes even more beautiful, it feels like a proper escape yet you are still close enough to the main areas of Chiang Rai if you want to go out and explore so it is a nice balance between convenience and calm, overall this hotel delivers exactly what it promises with spacious rooms strong cleanliness standards beautiful natural surroundings and genuinely good service and if you are coming to Chiang Rai and want somewhere that feels serene but still comfortable and well managed this is a very solid choice and I would definitely stay again!

We were very excited to visit this hotel but sadly it was just a disappointment. We booked this hotel after reading previous reviews, but after staying here I have to question those as our experience was not good at all. This hotel is old, tired, and not clean. We could see that it perhaps was a lovely resort in its day, but it’s rundown and well past it now. Staff are lazy, milling about doing as little as possible. Front gate and front desk staff are borderline rude, and the front desk staff almost take exception when you ask for something. Many of the staff are difficult to communicate with as they don’t speak much English, but front facing staff should be upskilled to make things easier for both them and for guests. Breakfast was OK, lots of variety and decent coffee. We had lunch in the restaurant on our first day, and it was just OK too. The worst part of breakfast was families with badly behaved children running around screaming, putting their hands in the food, and one morning there was even two small girls throwing a ball in the restaurant. We realise this is a parenting issue, rather than a hotel issue, but there is a point where the staff should step in, especially when other guests are being impacted. The pool area was nice, the pool cold and refreshing. A lovely spot to sit on a hot afternoon, although strangely, one afternoon a young man appeared and started sweeping around and under our loungers … odd when we were the only ones there and he could have worked away from us. The location is good, sitting overlooking the river is lovely. This property could be great but needs work.
