Hotel du Vin Exeter

dinner was good and the staff very attentive, even though they also had a large group to look after. Have stayed here years ago and liked it, thus rebooking this time.

The airconditioning did not work and there was no explanation or apology. This on the hottest day of the year. The lady 'supervising' breakfast was unpleasant, so we turned around and did not take the breakfast. Do I need to wait to be seated by somebody in an empty restaurant.

Das Frühstücksangebot war sehr gut, das Personal aufmerksam und stets bemüht, sowohl an der Rezeption als auch im Restaurant. Auch das Dinner im Restaurant war sehr zufriedenstellend. Die Parkplätze auf dem Hotelgrundstück sind zwar nicht preiswert, aber auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen (unbedingt vorher reservieren).

Zuerst war uns das Zimmer 6 im Erdgeschoss zugeteilt worden; dieses grenzt unmittelbar an die sehr stark befahrene Magdalen Street an. Wegen des Verkehrslärms konnte man kein Fenster öffnen und auch bei geschlossenen Doppelfenstern war der Verkehr störend. Man hat uns dann ein Zimmer im 3. OG überlassen, das deutlich ruhiger war.

after 5 hours by car arrived to find out that the air conditioning in all the three rooms we booked were not working and the hotel knew this the day before but failed to let us know considering there was a heatwave and in another review on the 11th May 2026 someone else also had the same problem We were offered a fan but that would have just circulated warm air that was already in the room so decided to not stay and drive 5 hours back home as could not find alternative accommodation and we should have been informed yesterday rather than wasting 10 hours of driving which we still have 3 hours to go to get home.

Another stay at Hotel Du Vin Exeter. Looked after brilliantly by Toby and the team for a stay on our way to Cornwall.

We stayed in room 120 - the air con didn’t work so it was boiling and I had my baby staying with me. Fans were places in the room, but I couldn’t keep them on all night and blowing on the baby, so it was boiling. The bathroom was also not very clean. There were hairs all over the floor and the tiles were filthy, which was a shame as the room itself was nice.

Nice public spaces, good breakfast, helpful front desk. Spacious bedroom with good shower and comfortable bed. Liked the coffee machine and cold drinking water in the fridge. The swimming pool and gardens are lovely.

Our first room was airless and dark (1st floor). We could not get the air conditioner to work (it showed a fault signal). Offered a fan but said that would only move hot stuffy air around. Offered an upgraded room which was much better but needed a plug in heater to warm it up. Not sure if the air con was working in this room either. Finally, it seems a shame that having such a lovely pool that there is no steam room or sauna. Very little parking available at the Hotel.
