Grand Hotel Excelsior

The hotel is a lovely setting with fantastic views. We love looking out over the harbour for our breakfast. Our room was a large room with a terrace with a wonderful view over the water. The staff are friendly and helpful.

The decor is tired. The pool can be crowded. You need good stamina to walk up the hill to Malta but there is an excellent shuttle bus which runs regularly in both directions.

Fantastic location, hotel and service

The room was very comfortable. All amenities required were there, if not ask and very promptly delivered. I had an accident and fractured my knee and hand. They went above and beyond to order taxis for hospital etc. They were so caring it was unbelievable. All staff were amazing, Cecelia sorted everything including Air Malta assistance, who again were fantastic. Will definitely visit again. Thank you to all. It is closing for 18 months ? to be refurbished, but although the furniture was slightly outdated it did not detract from a lovely hotel.

The hotel has a wonderful traditional vibe. It's welcoming and the staff are very helpful Our room was large and well equipped. The pool area is extensive and well staffed for ordering drinks, food or just getting assistance with the umbrellas. The hotel is a short but steep uphill walk from the centre of Valletta but the free shuttle bus runs up and down 3 times an hour. We had a wonderful stay in this elegant yet informal hotel.

It's a proper old school hotel where they put the customer first and you feel like you're experiencing a degree of luxury. Like Malta itself, very lovely!

For such a decent hotel that tries so hard, it served the same fare for breakfast every day. I can't fault the food or the amount available but I just wasn't inspired in the way that some hotels make you feel.
