"Wonderful stay."

Great to have a pool. Nice grounds, with trails and plants and trees labeled .

Would have been nice to have a shuttle to town for dinner. Restaurant was good but lacking in variety after a few meals.

"Good room, but overall a disappointing stay due to poor transparency, bad restaurant experience and inadequate handling"

5.0

The room is clean and spacious, with a shower that offers great water pressure and plenty of hot water. It is well equipped with air conditioning, a fridge, a coffee maker and drinking water. We appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as flowers and neatly folded towels. Pool towels are also provided. The room gets dark at night thanks to the wooden shutters. During our month traveling through Guatemala and Belize, this was the first place where we experienced complete darkness, making it especially pleasant to sleep without any outside light disturbance. Housekeeping was done during our stay even though we were only there for two nights. Cesar was very friendly, communicative and helpful. He gave us great advice for visiting the ATM Cave and helped organize our transfer to Belize City.

Upon arrival, we were informed that no alcohol is served on the property, reportedly due to the owner’s religious beliefs. The real issue is discovering this only once on site. This is not a minor detail and it’s simply not acceptable for this kind of information not to be clearly stated at the time of booking. We were told that guests are allowed to bring their own alcohol, which feels somewhat contradictory and does not make up for the lack of service, especially when you are on vacation and might reasonably expect to enjoy a drink or a cocktail without having to plan everything yourself. When traveling to countries where alcohol is restricted, you know it in advance and adapt accordingly. Here, the problem is the complete lack of transparency, which negatively impacts the experience. Our bungalow was located right next to the parking area and the road, which made it quite noisy. We could clearly hear cars passing by and people talking, which takes away from the intended “jungle” experience. The pool area could use a refresh and feels under-equipped, with only two hammocks available for all guests and otherwise just basic plastic chairs, which is far from ideal for a comfortable or relaxing space. We tried the restaurant and ordered two burgers. The buns were extremely hard, the meat was overcooked and the oil used for the fries seemed old. Overall, the meal was very disappointing. When the waitress came to check on us, I gave honest feedback. Her attitude then became irritated and unpleasant, which felt unprofessional and frankly unacceptable. Other guests around us seemed satisfied with their meals, so we may simply have been unlucky, but unfortunately no attempt was made to address the issue, no apology, no alternative offered, and no gesture such as a discount. Combined with the attitude, this left a very negative impression.

"Truly wonderful experience close to so"

10.0

This place was truly incredible. The staff were amazing. They booked transportation from Guatemala for us, as well as taxis and several amazing tours. The casita was perfect. We used the kitchen a lot and it had everything you could ask for. The pool and hammocks are so relaxing. The restaurant is delicious as well. Saw lots of wildlife including toucans. Close to Santa Elena and San Ignacio town, it’s a bit of a walk into town or a short taxi ride. I’ll definitely stay here again next time we visit.

Nothing. We loved this place so much. It’s a little out of town, which is why we chose it. It’s quiet and feels remote while still being close to town.

"Maya Mountain Lodge is great place to stay as a base for exploring San Ignacio area!"

9.0

Our room was very clean and spacious. We loved the large deck overlooking the jungle and the pool. While the deck was shared we mostly had it to ourselves which was nice! The pool was just the right size to cool off and the lit fire pit on the weekend was fun. The cleaning service was very impressive and providing coffee was a nice touch. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!

The parking lot was nice to have, just a bit bumpy. While it was nice to be in the jungle we were just over a mile from downtown San Ignacio and the street to town was not safely walkable so we had to drive to dinner each night. However, Maya Mountain Lodge did have a nice restaurant on the premises which could have been a nice option had we not wanted to explore the town more. But, honestly, Maya Mountain Lodge is a great value and great choice to stay while you explore the natural beauty of the area!
