Matachica Beach Resort and Spa

Could not be more perfect from arriving via boat, excellent service, weather, food, room and staff. Overall A+ in every aspect! Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful resort! Staff is EXCELLENT! We didn't love San Pedro in general but loved the resort. Food at Mambo is fantastic and you cannot beat the service and the staff in general. Recommend the resort and hope we'll be able to return again soon.

Beautiful location, excellent pool and the hotel grounds were well kept. The room was clean and well splinted, except no TV in the room.

The food was decent, but was expensive for what it was. We spent almost the equivalent of our room rate on food each day, which was surprising.

Los bungalows son muy bonitos y cómodos, la ubicación es excepcional, se puede ir en kayak a pocos metros y nadar con mantas rayas y tiburones nodriza. El personal es muy atento. En nuestro caso tuvieron en cuenta hacernos platos veganos fuera de menú tanto en desayuno como en la cena y además riquísimo! Es importante tener medio de locomoción para moverse porque el hotel está lejos del resto. Nosotros alquilamos carrito de golf y fue muy cómodo.

This resort tries to provide a 4-star experience, and it almost delivers. The property itself is beautiful, however the beachfront is not as pictured in photos. From the minute you arrive you’re greeted by brown water with a foul stench. For Texas travelers I would rate this beach as worse than Galveston. Fortunately, if you paddle out to the reef in a kayak, the water clarifies to the expected Caribbean blue. The official resort excursions were excellent - I especially enjoyed the trip to Caye caulker. Beyond that, we had several issues here. The food was way overpriced for Belize and I actually had food poisoning one night. The rooms have a thatch roof, and we could see daylight through the roof, and multiple insects in the room. We also had a major issue with the water from the shower/tap - it smelled like hydrogen sulfide. They apparently don’t carbon filter the well water. The hotel staff were friendly, but temper your expectations. They make frequent oversights, like not giving you a spoon for your coffee, or forgetting to provide a napkin. They will also cancel pre-booked excursions at the last minute if they don’t hit their signup quota. This is especially unacceptable given the dozens of competing tour companies on Viator, etc. If a tour is booked, it should be 100% delivered, without exception! To be honest, if I return to Ambergris Caye, I would probably select an alternative resort.

The property & casitas: Matachica truly exceeded our expectations. The property is absolutely stunning — beautifully maintained every single day. The staff constantly tend to the grounds, even raking any sargassum to keep the beach pristine and inviting. Each little casita is immaculately clean — modern, cozy, and full of character, with that perfect “home away from home” feel surrounded by lush greenery and leaning palm trees. You really feel tucked away in your own private jungle, just steps from the beach. The turn down service was my favorite, with incense and cookies. So tranquil and relaxing. Service: My boyfriend actually proposed here on the awsome pier 💍, and the staff went above and beyond to help him plan the perfect moment. A HUGE THANK YOU to Heidi and the ladies at the front desk — they were absolutely amazing! Alyx (our waiter) in the Mambo restaurant also. One of our friends got sick on the boat and they brought her chicken soup and Pedialyte. We were so touched by their kindness. Pool & restaurant: We also loved the pool and Tree Bar — their cocktails were not only delicious, but picture-perfect, lol. The pool is quiet, tranquil and super clean. 🍹🌴 We went to town a few times to try some popular restaurant recs. The hotel was my fav food was honestly in the resort restaurant / mambo. Amazing dinner entrees and desserts! We honestly couldn’t have imagined a better resort. Matachica will always hold such a special place in our hearts, and we can’t wait to come back! Only downsides: you have to golf cart to town - which is a small hike and the roads get bumpy in some spots, but Heidi and the ladies can easily get you a cab instead. Small boutique hotel, very well maintained with exceptional staff! No one passes you by without saying hello. Dining room staff addressed us by name. Special thank you to Heidi, Andre for an amazing table service for our candlelight dinner and Victor(?), who drove us to the airport and gave us an amazing history of the island.
