Matachica Beach Resort and Spa

Hi, My new bride and I spent our honeymoon at Matachica Resort. We had our wedding in Bacalar on Thanksgiving. Yayyy. From the moment we arrived at Matachica, we noticed the tranquility, hospitality, and simplicity. We really appreciated the staff, whose warmth and professionalism elevated our stay. Especially - Jeremy, the concierge, his consistency, attentiveness and support made our week special. We had a lot of questions - he arranged our requests, and handled all of it with efficiency. The resort itself is impeccable —quiet bungalows , a beachfront, and an atmosphere that encourages relaxation and reconnect. The itinerary we set included spa treatments, a pier dinner, snorkeling, and downtime. We enjoyed the property, and each experience that came a long with the service. I’d like to mention the nightly turndown cookies. It’s a great touch — exactly the kind of detail that sets the bar for hospitality. Matachica exceeded our expectations and provided a peaceful, beginning to our marriage. We look forward to returning and highly recommend it to anyone seeking an elevated and intimate getaway.

At the resort we were able to spend time, relaxing and enjoying the amenities that they offered. Their staff was very helpful. Most notably was Tony who made us feel like part of the Matachica family.

I would absolutely recommend Matachica in Belize for a romantic or relaxing stay! I travel often and this was a treat. We spent 4 nights to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday and it was a magical stay. Getting there: After you land in Belize city BZE, you will have to take a short plane ride or water taxi to the San Pedro island. We opted for the San Pedro Belize express water taxi as it was the bigger ferry and we don’t love small planes. Taxi from airport to the ferry is 30 minutes, the ferry ride is 90 minutes. The resort sent staff to pick us up at the ferry and that was another 30 minutes to the resort. Arrival: The resort is beautiful!! Right on the water with lovely over ocean loungers. The staff welcomed us with drinks of our choice and were overall so kind and thoughtful the entire stay. Room: We chose to stay in the sea/ocean front luxury suite of which there are only two. The suite was massive with a separate bedroom, a huge bathroom with oversized tub and walk in shower, double closets, and a separate indoor living room. We also had a private plunge pool overlooking the ocean, private deck with deck chairs and beach chairs. This room category included a daily continental breakfast and the highlight was fresh baked pastries that changed every day and all were so good. ***There are no TVs in room! You’re supposed to unplug… We brought a computer screen with express vpn downloaded via fire stick so that we could watch college football live on fubo which worked perfectly. Service highlights: Loved the room service hot coffee on wake up service every morning, we also had a nespresso machine and tea kettle. The housekeeping was excellent!! Extremely clean, and I loved the turndown service with cookies every night. I never had to ask for more towels they freshened twice per day. The property mosquito control was top tier, they supplied us bug spray and did very discreet fogging, I did not get a single mosquito bite. The staff were so responsive, and responded immediately to any issues that presented. Excursion highlight: The best part of the trip was a fishing and snorkeling excursion with Victor and Charlie! My husband is an avid flyfisherman but I don’t fish very much and still caught so many! We caught about 2 dozen fish (snapper, mackerel, jack) and just missed out on a barracuda. The on boat ceviche and lunch were so good. And snorkeling the coral reefs was so beautiful and worth it. On arrival back to the dock we selected the fish we wanted to eat, and the staff cleaned them and cooked them for us for dinner and the cook from the chef was phenomenal! We had them three ways: as ceviche, blackened and fried, but they give options for the cook as well as for included sides. All of this, the fishing/snorkeling trip, the cook of the fish, and the dinner is all included in the cost of the excursion. My husband absolutely wanted to do the “catch and cook” here and he was thrilled and cannot wait to go back to do that experience again! Tip: We used MTK golf cart rentals to go for dinner/drinks off of the property

Very beautiful and well maintained property. Staff were all very friendly. The food was great and their pastry chef was the best. We couldn’t get enough. Rooms were spacious and clean. We stayed in a larger room with a plunge pool. It was nice having the outdoor space in addition to the large rooms, bathroom and closet space. It’s quiet and peaceful. Only complaint was there isn’t any room service. We just personally like room service a lot when on vacation. There are some crazy biting bugs at night, but they provide repellant in your room. And they did have a large amount of sargassum (it’s a brown algae) while we were there, but the resort does a good job of keeping the beach clean. Room had ample toiletries if you forget something. Not sure if this is always the case, but while we were there, there were lots of 4 wheelers running back and forth in front of our room on the beach. That part was noisy. I was trying to nap one day and that’s all I could hear. Maybe there could be a route behind the resort for them . Just a thought. Loved our stay.

I would highly recommend Matachica. It’s absolutely amazing, gorgeous and stunning resort. The rooms are very nice with beautiful views of the ocean just steps from our front porch. The food is amazing with an amazing selection of cocktails. The service is by far some of the best we have had, especially Archy was on top of everything. The excursions we did were all a wonderful time especially the catch fish with the beach BBQ for lunch with your fresh catch. If you are a diver I would put this one on your bucket list. We will definitely be back.

Front desk service needs work, everything else is great. Good food and drinks, reef near hotel is nice and can paddle out to it and snorkel. However, when requesting things from the front desk the lady there wasn't the nicest. Everyone else was great though.

Absolutely beautiful location with warm and gracious staff. We got engaged here and staff went above and beyond by helping us with a mini photo shoot to capture the moment. Food was also amazing and would highly recommend the beachfront casitas.

I celebrated my 60th birthday here with my partner and we had a wonderful stay! The hotel is calm and welcoming, with outstanding, friendly service that made me feel like family. The food was delicious, and they were incredibly flexible with travel arrangements. A truly relaxing experience that left us with beautiful memories.

Stop searching and book Matachica today! Everything about Matachica is next level perfect. Our stay was the second stop on our trip to Belize, the first leg was at Gaia RiverLodge, the sister resort to Matachica. While in San Pedro, we visited a couple of other resorts nearby to compare and the Matachica property is the best option. All staff were friendly, incredible with service and worked to make our experience more than we could have expected. The beachfront at Matachica is one of the best on the ocean side with lounge chairs outside our casita door and relaxing furniture on the private dock to enjoy a cocktail, read or get lost in the beauty of the Caribbean Sea. The resort is extremely clean, our casita so comfortable and the cuisine is excellent. We definitely experienced joy and relaxation while celebrating our 20th Anniversary!
