Hotel Ultramar

Staff greeting on our arrival was excellent - we received a map of the area with helpful information written/added on. The hotel only has approx. 20 rooms which made it feel as though you were staying in someone's house rather than a a hotel which we found charming. The breakfast room leads onto a veranda which has superb views over the coast. The bedrooms are comfortable and very clean as is the rest of the hotel. The staff were delightful and very hard working. The location is great as it is in a quiet area but within 10-15 minutes walking distance of a very good restaurant area. Although there is no restaurant, snacks were available until 8pm and there was a bar available until later. The hotel is tricky to find (we drove there) but then I think anything in Valparaiso is to a newcomer!

Was not given the room we booked. Hotel.com gave us credit for future booking to resolve the issue. Hotel apologized..

Hotel with a charming terrace, friendly staff, high speed wi-fi. Comfortable bed and very clean and nice bathroom. No air conditioning but tall cielings make somehow a fresh balance.

The hotel was very safe, clean and charming. The view from the hotel is spectacular!! The staff treated my mother and I like family. Overall I highly recommend UltraMar and I would stay here again.

Great staff, great service!

hotel is a good spot for exploring the city. The views from this place are great due to it's location.We thought the room was small - having to step over the luggage on the floor to get from the bed to the bathroom - but that's no big issue. Staff were helpful and the breakfast was good. We found navigating the city difficult in the car, so were very pleased to ditch the car in their private car park.

The hotel did a nice job renovating visually, and has nice views. The location is not close to much, but you can walk. Some staff was very nice and helpful, but one totally ignored me when I said, twice, in Spanish, "excuse me" it was not as if she was helping someone else. Worst of all, plumbing: Water kept flowing on and off in my pipes next to my room. Guy fixed it once, but then I did not ask again. But when I came back from breakfast, bathroom totally smelled of excrement. Had to open all windows to clear out. I'm not a demanding visitor! Also, not good for privacy between room and hall you can hear everything

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The front desk Jose Miguel and Camilla particularly went out of their way to be helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. Located within walking distance to many restaurants and other scenic attractions. A bad thing was the number of stray dogs barking at night and roaming the streets and getting into rubbish bags which made some areas messy and smelly.
