Hotel Ultramar

Very special location, like and old factory building, but when inside its ok !

Hotel Ultramar delivers on contemporary style and charm. Staff are friendly and helpful. Views are hard to beat. I just can't get over that first sleepless night due to persistent dog barking nearby. Dogs barked periodically on the next two nights - not as bad, but not really conducive to the peace and rest that seem to be promised by the style and price of the hotel. I'm not sure any other locations in Valpo can promise the quiet I'd hoped for (there are strays everywhere), but this might be an argument for visiting Valpo in the day and sleeping in the more orderly Vina del Mar. Another downside of Hotel Ultramar for some - teeny tiny bathrooms.

For those who want the ambiance of being up in the hills, which Valparaiso is all about it is good, basic hotel but clean. Lack of choice in restaurant bit limiting and walk up the hills would be hard for not so fit, taxi cost around C$2000 which was not too bad from Conception.

The hotel was clean and modern with a lovely terrace that faced the bay and hills of Valparaiso. The location of the hotel was a 20-30 minute walk from all restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions.

This gem of a hotel was very difficult to find, but worth the trouble! Amazing views of the bay were possible due to the hilly location. Once found, it´s very short walk down into town. Public transportation allows for a quick return from downtown.
