Homewood Suites by Hilton Portland

Breakfast was delicious and the hostess there did a wonderful job. Everything was refilled immediately and tables were spotless. And Sally at the front desk was great.

We arrived in the evening for a one night stay, checking out the next morning. The stopper in the bathroom sink was broken in the down position so the water would not drain and the sink was unusable. Whoever cleaned the sink before we arrived had to know about this but clearly said nothing to management. Also the thermostat control was not working properly and would only provide heat. Luckily we turned it off and it was chilly enough outside to cool the room. The person we spoke to when we checked out was rather phony with her ‘concern.’ All in all an underwhelming experience and I will not stay in a Hilton again.

We stayed at 3 different Homewood Suites hotels during a recent New England trip. All three were basically OK, but each one had its own quirks. Comments that apply to all three: The staff was very friendly and professional. The room (suite with 1 king bed) was OK at each. The room lighting was not quite bright enough for book reading. Each room used a different kind of HVAC unit, but in each case the only choices were quiet/stuffy and loud/frigid -- it was not easy to find a happy medium. The free breakfast seemed a little less tasty than in previous years, the eggs were only lukewarm at each place. The refrigerator in the kitchen was loud at all three hotels, but if we closed the door between the bedroom and the living area, the fridge didn't bother us at night. The living area at the Portland hotel seemed nicer than the previous one, but our first-floor unit had the parking lot outside our window, we couldn't get the curtains to block all the outside light, and there was a little bit of noise from the parking lot and the nearby highway. The hotel is located in a suburban business park, only 1 restaurant within walking distance, but it's a short drive to bustling downtown Portland, and (unlike the downtown hotels) the parking is free. We were mostly happy with our stay and would probably stay here again.

The stay was fantastic, room was perfect for what we needed. Only issue we had was they didn’t replenish our in room coffee at all during our 5 day stay.

It met my standars

Room was clean including bathroom. Like the vanity was separate from the shower and toilet. The bed was comfortable. The entire room air was fresh, no residue smell of cleaning product or usual room odor from being shut up. Front staff was excellent on checking and checkout. Breakfast room staff was excellent. It was the best variety of breakfast items we have experienced in a long time. With real utensils and cups. I felt spoiled. We could tell Hilton really cares about their customers and staff.

Wish there was a Hilton in every city we visited.

We were surprised at how many Hilton brand hotels were in Portland. But, when we were trying to stay on budget during the Maine Marathon weekend, we opted to stay 15 minutes south of downtown Portland. The hotel actually is quite a distance away from the jetport (approx 5 miles?) so you don't hear any airport noise. It also is nestled in a fairly remote area, away from the large mall and shopping area less than a mile away. The staff were mostly helpful, the sole exception being the late night desk clerk; but, everyone has an "off" shift, and I am sure that this was the case. The day staff and kitchen staff were amazing on each day that we stayed. The rooms are very very clean and without any flaws (that we could see). The indoor pool and hot tub also were very clean and well maintained. While this hotel isnt the most conveniently located for doing things in Portland, the value and quietness and overall state of the property make it a great option.
