"Not worth it"

6.0

The room condition is so so, and the front desk is not happy all day long. You can find better hotel at this price in Beijing. I won't live there anymore.

"Great location for university visits"

6.0

I stayed at this hotel during a delegation trip for education leaders. The hotel was very conveniently located for my needs at the university. Since we had transportation I didn’t have to deal with arranging my own transportation to popular tourist sights. This hotel is convenient to universities and is on ring 4 (of 7) and due to this it was always a long trek into downtown Beijing on ring 1. Traffic in Beijing is harrowing and always busy and at peak times took 1.5 hours to get to Forbidden City and the like. The Summer Palace was close by and worth the trip. If I were to travel to Beijing just for sightseeing I would select a hotel closer in. The Internet was very spotty. Since I was using web based Wechat to communicate with those back home this was very frustrating. Also, the beds were so hard. I was prepared for this and packed a cheap foam mat to help cushion my sleep. Also, be aware there are different “level” rooms. If you are traveling as a guest of a university you likely will not get a room like those in the pictures. I have attached a picture of a delegation room. It’s much like a dorm room. There were groups of students traveling who also stayed in these small dorm like rooms. It was fine since little time was spent in my room but I would never choose it for myself. We continued our travel to Shanghai and the lovely hotel room there was a welcome sight of modern luxury for this American. One great thing about this hotel is the breakfast buffet. The food was plentiful and delicious. Even those who were traveling with us that didn’t appreciate traditional Chinese food found a full plate of acceptable items. If you do indeed like traditional Chinese like me you will find the food a welcome treat. Overall, I would never turn down a free stay at this hotel. If it was on my own dime I would upgrade my room. If my trip was purely for pleasure I would upgrade the hotel entirely.

"Great value for money"

8.0

It's great if you are looking for a place to stay in Wudaokou. Short walk to the tube, a minute away from BLCU and a taxi ride away from Sanlitun and Tiananmen. The rooms are clean but they have very hard beds. There's a restaurant, swimming pool and karaoke on site, or you can walk 5 minutes to Wudaokou and find loads of restaurants, shops and bars. Good value for money.

"Great experience"

8.0

But hard hard beds! Amazing group of buildings to make a mini village of facilities near many of the universities. There's a (UK public sized) swimming pool and a full ten pin bowling hall. Food is great with lots of choice (& coffee/toast/cereal for breakfast if you don't fancy Hawthorne juice & winter melon stir fry! - an amazing selection of tastes & textures!) But there seems to be two tiers of rooms - stayed in student dorm type which has a fridge shower safe kettle etc but rock hard beds - found a second duvet & sleeping between two layers to soften the experience!

"Convenient location but somewhat disappointing"

6.0

This Chinese Government run hotel has a convenient location to many universities (e.g., Tsinghua) and research institutes (e.g., the Chinese Academy of Sciences); however, I found it disappointing for the following reasons: 1. The internet was very erratic and generally very slow. Be aware that the Chinese Government blocks many web sites (including Google!), so if you are using a Gmail email account, it will not work in China! You can get round this by installing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) - I used Express VPN, which then allowed me to use my email service and access blocked web sites. 2. The room was large, but the bed was very hard! 3. Very few of the staff speak English. Also they rarely smile and generally act like they do not enjoy their jobs. 4. The temperature was set at 24 C and apparently could not be changed. 5. The first night, I called at midnight to ask if something could be done about the temperature of the room. The front desk number was continuously busy (someone had clearly taken the phone off the hook), and the customer service number, which also is their emergency number, was also busy! 6. The room information book lists an emergency number (which as noted above was 'busy' at midnight), but fails to tell the customer that if one has a medical emergency, they should dial 0 (for an outside line) and then 120. For police emergency call 110. 7. The breakfast was average, but with very few Western choices. 8. They have a 'Western' restaurant (in Building 9), but the food was terrible and the prices very high. The best restaurant is the Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor of Building 8. I stay at this hotel because the research institute that I am collaborating with pays for my stay there; however, I would not book this hotel on my own. It is not a 'business-friendly' hotel.

"Smelly Bathroom"

6.0

I can't complain for the price I paid, but the sewers smelled terribly! Even with the bathroom door closed, I had to keep my window open whenever I was in the room.

"Perfectly good for the price"

Totally fine for the price. The only thing that was frustrating was the internet - it was eyewateringly slow so that it worked for messaging but couldn't eben download web pages.

"Nice hotel for a business trip"

6.0

The hotel is clean and not expensive. Rooms are large and very clean. It's far from downtown and the area is traditional so no way to speak English or any other language. The hotel's restaurant is clean and food is good.
