Great Trethew Manor Hotel & Restaurant

We had booked 2 'superior' double rooms and on arrival were told that only 1 was available but that we were lucky that the Bungalow was free and we would be able to have that at no extra cost. This was a bit of a joke as it was tatty and very dated accommodation with a very old bathroom, many lights not working and although there was a tired looking kitchen there was no tea/coffee or milk. We had booked the superior room for a king sized bed but ended up with just a double bed. The breakfast was quite good but overall we were a little disappointed.

The hotel has a lovely setting with wonderful grounds to walk in. Very olde worlde and although our room was quite small and did not have a view we were happy with the general atmosphere and found all staff members very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is well situated to visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project as well Mevagissey and Newquay. The food in the restaurant is great and good value for money.

I have to say I really enjoyed my stay here. Its so much nicer to stay in a family run hotel than some faceless chain hotel. Sitting in the bar with the owners each evening, next to a log fire, is just something you can't do most "modern" hotels. Having a freshly prepared bespoke breakfast is much better than serving yourself from pre-loaded chafers. GTM is certainly on my list of hotels to visit again.
