I stayed at Hollywood by the Sea about 5 years ago when it was owned by a family. It had a washer and dryer on the premises, and parking on site was free. All needs were attended to in a timely and efficient manner and it was clean and kept up nicely. However, now, in 2025, it appears that a group or corporation has bought up many of the small hotels that WERE mom and pop. So, things have changed, and not for the better. I would say it is okay,....rating wise, a two and a half star.
The positive is the location of Hollywood by the Sea,....right off the beach and Broadwalk, two buildings from the Broadwalk. It is North of Margaritaville Resort,.....and just south of the Marriott. So, everything is within walking distance, which is great. Bars, restaurants, shops, the Bandstand where they have live music outside every Thursday through Sunday nights
BEFORE you go to your hotel, you MUST go to the office which is probably in another hotel to register and get your keys.
IF you are going to be eating in the unit, you tell the desk when you register, and they give you a box to carry back to the unit, with silverware, dishtowel, flipper, plates, cereal bowls, mugs and glasses. Also a small pot and small frying pan. NO big bowls for salad or pasta, or to make pancakes. No big pot, and No baking dishes.
The floor is mopped, so it is dirty,.....they do not use a Swifter to get it really clean. I took a dampened tissue, and it was black after wiping one block of the tile floor. The furniture is ample,....but,.only one dresser,.....another dresser for anyone using the pull-out sofa would be great. There is a good size closet, and a smaller one, a pantry, and a small electric stove. It had 4 burners, but, only one burner worked. I told them, they have not fixed it yet. Also, there is only about 2' of counter space for food preparation,......so we had to prep on the kitchen table for the most part. The bed was comfortable, the pull-out sofa could be better. TV is not cable, but, they have Hulu, Netflix, etc. The inside, is basically dated,.....paint has come chips, floor tile could be redone, just needs a good refresh with everything.
There is an outside balcony with tables and chairs, which is nice,.....however, they have ashtrays on the tables, so people can be smoking while you are trying to enjoy your meal. Or even talking with friends with cigarette smoke wafting over is NO fun! They should not allow any smoking ANYWHERE on the property!
If you want their free breakfast, you have to walk a couple blocks and it is only from 7:45 to 9:15,.....kind of like you have when you stay at a Quality Inn with breakfast included,.....All cold foods, though,.bananas, oranges, bagels, bread, cereal, hard boiled eggs,....sometimes they have whipped spread instead of butter,....not good! The 9:15 cut off is way too early for people at a beach vacation,....it should go at least to 10 AM., but, once the clock ticks 9:15, they close the gate and you are not getting anything!
Also,....now they charge you for parking,....$18 a day, plus tax! There is a parking garage right across the street, so we did that, for $117 for a month,....even though we stayed 2 weeks, still cheaper.
This review is for Hollywood by the Sea owned by Hollywood Beach Hotels. It seems they are renovating some of the other small hotels they own, so hopefully Hollywood by the Sea will be renovated soon. All in all, it is okay,.... C minus, if I was to grade it. But, it should be cheaper per night,....I think. $800 a week for March, would be more of a fair price for what they offer at this particular hotel. If you're looking for the Hyatt, this isn't it,... One last thing,.....They quote you one price,....then, when you get here, they tag on another $300 for fees of unknown reason! Another vacationer told me they did the same to her! Honestly, I will probably NOT be coming back to any of the Hollywood Beach Hotels,......just not the vibe,....can't even cook a pasta dinner without bringing your own pot! And the 9:15 deadline for breakfast is ridiculous. And paying for parking,.....no thank you! So, ya,....somewhere else next time.
