The Saracens Head Hotel

Our 5th stay and plan to stay again nearer Christmas ,

The breakfast was very good.

We arrived at 2.50pm . We knew check in was 3pm. Receptionist was a little offhand at us being early. A lot of the staff where very young , although pleasant they just need a little more training. The room was good but needs glasses and tissues.

Lovely area. Cotswolds. . Cheep price.clean. Good food . Beer garden nice

We had a corridor in the middle of the room with the bedroom at one side and bathroom at the other. That wasn't too bad but there was no wardrobe just hangers on hooks in the corridor. We didn't have much choice of dinner on the first night and had to take 3rd choice as 3 out of 8 meals had ran out. The second night we arrived back into the hotel at 10.15 for a drink and was told the bar was closed. But that night we were kept awake until 2.30 am with shouting, singing and talking from a group of people on the floor below.

Like the hotel location. Worked there back in the 1980 for 11 years .First time been back was a bit dissapointed

Room 9 No water coming through cold tap Window leddge fell off when we open window to let fresh air into room Went down to the bar around 5.30 asked to see bar menu but 20 mins later no menu given even know there was 3 staff having a chat behind the bar.We went across the road to the crown Hotel for food . At breakfast we was welcome by a very nice young girl who attended not only to our requirements but others that was having breakfast.Than this foreign lady came into the dining room and she started shouting at this young girl regarding the top up of orange juice.Very unprofessional.

Convenient location visiting friends. Lovely little town with some nice shops and cafe/restaurants. Sunday lunch in the pub really was very good. Lots of free parking nearby which is good as we couldn’t get in the pub car park.

I didn’t have high expectations due to the price and we booked for convenience not expecting much however, the room really was not nice. I honestly have to say it was the worst hotel room I have ever personally stayed in. The carpet was stained badly all over. Chest of drawers had handles missing. Marks and stains on all the walls, skirting and furniture. The bathroom was very bad with black mould in the grout on floor and walls, limescale and mould build up on the shower and tiles, the walls and ceiling paint was peeling and had marks all over. The towel rail/radiator was incredibly rusty (you definitely wouldn’t want to hang your towel on it!) and the toilet and shower made strange loud banging noise when used. The whole room is in desperate need of a complete refurbishment and sadly I wouldn’t recommend or stay again.

I love the history of the building, the location is ideal to walk round and explore southwell. The staff are friendly and very helpful, the bed is very old and squeaky and the mattress a little too soft for our personal preference but overall the suite is beautiful.

The noise from people coming out of the local pubs late at night is disturbing and the car park a little awkward but not impossible.
