Schuster Mansion Bed & Breakfast

I hosted a High tea bridal shower for my daughter last Saturday. Laura Sue was rude and disrespectful from the time I made the reservation. After making the reservation, I sent Laura Sue an email with a question that required a simple yes or no response. She never responded. Then 2 weeks prior to the event I called her with the head count. At this time I had a few questions. After asking her my first couple of questions, to which she responded that the information was on the website and laughed at the questions I had, I gave up on asking the remaining questions. Upon arrival she made me , my daughters, mother and other guests feel very unwelcome. And NO Laura Sue, I did not have my own agenda as how things were to go concerning this event. I was just trying to please you. You seemed angry that a guest arrived a minute or two late so I was only trying to please you hoping maybe you would treat us better. As we were waiting for the event to begin there were a couple of guests who asked to use the restroom. Each one had told me they felt you were angry with their requests. Each of these women had traveled more than 3 hours to get there and needed to use the bathroom. Laura Sue also was frustrated when I asked about serving champagne. I had told her I intended to do this when I called with the final head count. She insisted we never had this conversation. Believe me we did. I brought my own champagne as she informed me I needed to do and also had no problem paying the extra $1 per guest to use her glasses. Lastly it was not only me who felt I was treated rudely. Actually every guest, not only the one who brought her baby, told me they felt very unwelcome here. Yes I did tell Laura Sue everything was great. I did lie only because I was afraid of how she would react if I had said otherwise. So so disappointed. This very special occasion was ruined by Laura Sue.

We needed a room in a very sold out night in Milwaukee, and decided to take a chance on a bed & breakfast because it seemed charming. Knowing that a B&B is usually run by owners on site, my husband and I were mindful to check in as early as we could (6pm), but were greeted so coolly by the hostess upon arrival, I thought we were in the wrong place. Within 15 minutes, I was ready to leave-and should have. The proprietress used every opportunity and moment of our visit, to make us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Commanding us to sit or stand, contradicting or arguing with everything, it was appalling. She complained endlessly about the third party site I had booked on, complained about other guests to us and was outright mean to her spouse in front of us. We tried to ignore all this, enjoy the ambiance (the room really was pretty), but awoke in the morning to water leaking from the ceiling, right onto us on the bed. When we let her know what was happening, instead of trying to fix it, she blames another guest, in the middle of a full dining room! He “took a shower wrong” and caused this leak, apparently. Meaning, this has happened before and we were rented a room with full knowledge the ceiling leaks. No apology, no concern for the bed (being leaked on the entire time this is happening). I have never had someone make me so uncomfortable and feel so unwelcome, anywhere I’ve stayed. We left tired and started for the drive home; I’m still in shock about the experience.

The owner has to be the rudest business owner we’ve ever dealt with. Do not visit! Laura’s callus and derogatory responses to prior negative reviews and comments are exactly what you will experience if you choose to visit. If you do reserve afternoon tea you’ll also receive an acknowledgment email which states if you need to cancel your reservation that you should understand “your emergency is not her emergency”. The old mansion now anchors what would have been a beautiful neighborhood 100 years ago. However this is a much different and seedy neighborhood today. There was an arrest of individuals selling drugs, 8 houses down from the mansion when we left. Our experience: We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation as we’ve read Laura’s responses of people arriving late for their reservation and the grief she gave them. Laura answered the door with no welcome or any positive comment. We actually had to tell her we’re there for our afternoon tea reservation and then she resounded with “you’re a little early”. We advised her we wanted to arrive early as we weren’t familiar with Milwaukee. She said “I guess you can come in”. She then advised us of the three rooms we could visit while we wait. My wife then asked her if she had a restroom and her response was “yes” without looking at her. We stood there and looked at each other while she paused for a while before she asked if she needed to use it. After my wife exited the restroom, Laura went to go finish prepping we looked around a bit more and noticed it was 85 degrees in the dining room where we were to be seated. At that point , I called out to Laura who was in the kitchen and told her we would be leaving without partaking in her afternoon tea. She asked why and I advised her she has been extremely rude since we arrived and extremely unwelcoming. I then acknowledged we understood we wouldn’t be refunded and we did not ask to be. We left understanding we were out over $180 as we prepaid for 3 people.

Laura Sue and Rick were the ultimate hosts during our stay at Schuster Mansion. The accommodations were lovely. All the furnishings were true to the time period of the Victorian era. My husband and I awoke each morning to a delicious breakfast. Schuster Mansion was a warm, inviting “home” to stay during our visit to Milwaukee. It was a treat!

Such a beautiful place with charm & very clean!! Food was delicious & it's a great location for going to the Pabst Theater! Make sure you go to the front door with the sign in front, & not the side door by the garden when you check in.

The afternoon tea was wonderful. The food is really exceptional. I was very impressed with the three savories, they were very flavorful. The homemade Devonshire cream and jam were delicious. I’ve had tea in many famous places, and the food here is ranked at the top. The beautiful dining room was so pleasant, and we were able to sample 8 different teas. This was a fantastic time with friends.

The breakfast was good and Rick was very nice

We were great harshling at the door like we were soliciting. The woman was rude and talked down to us from the start. Could be because I have long hair and my girlfriend has quite a few Tattoos. Anyway if the room had not been expensive and non refundable we would have left at that moment my girlfriend runs every morning and did not even feel comfortable walking though the house by herself in fear she might be scolded in an encounter with the female owner. She also would not come down for breakfast for the same reason. I’m not super picky and neither is she but the bathtub filled up with water about 8 inches during the duration of a shower. And took at least 10 minutes to recced
