"Spoilt our day , guess we are used to good quality"

6.0

Second time eating Sunday lunch here , extremely dissapointed .restaurant was grubby, copious amounts of dogs which is highly unpleasant where food is served plus 2 in our party are allergic . Parsnips were uncooked, dissapointing veg red cabbage and green cabbage not to our liking, both sloppy and over cooked, limited veg ,not sure where you beef came from .!! The Vegetarian dish was not eaten due to tasting unpleasant On both occasions we bought guests from abroad thinking we were going to get a great English traditional roast . Yorkshire puddings were O K guess they were frozen !! Dissulioned won't be coming back .

The hotel is located in a great location. It has an excellent pub, with another excellent pub almost across the street for variety. It is a short walking distance to Corfe castle as well as an historic railway.

We had a cheerful and lovely welcome on arrival. Hotel parking very convenient. We were shown to our room . There was a vacuum cleaner left outside our door which we stepped over to get in . Having sorted ourselves out we then stepped over the vc again . ( it was still there hours later so we moved it ourselves !) The room was ok but a bit tired and in need of a refresh . Holes need filling and the electric sockets by the bed need fixing . Breakfast was brilliant , made to order and delicious. The staff member was lovely and attentive too. Some furniture in the dining hall was broken and not appropriate to use . To sum up , staff great , breakfast 10/10 , room in need of a refresh .

"Disappointed stay"

4.0

We stayed for one night only in September . Starting on a positive the staff were friendly and nice , we arrived really early so as we could use the Swanage railway and we were allowed to park in the pub car park which was kind of them. Location is absolutely ideal as the railway is just yards away and Corfe Castle is just across the road . However, The Bankes Arms is quoted as being a boutique hotel with refurbished rooms. We do not agree with this especially for the cost of the one night stay. We booked a family room after seeing the website pictures but sadly the room we were given was nothing like this . It was a small double room with a box room connected by a bathroom in the middle. The bed was very flat not comfortable at all. Tea/coffee making facilities were very basic, no pods given for the coffee machine. Paint touch-up marks all over the walls giving it a very untidy look. Towel rail had been pulled off the wall in the bathroom, a picture was sat on the toilet after previously coming off the wall. The shower, however, was decent and hot, albeit the shower cubicle itself did have quite a bit of black mildew markings around it . The carpet in the bedroom was not the cleanest, and the night we stayed was a windy night, the main door to the room did not seal properly needless to say we had a very disturbed night on a very uncomfortable bed. We did eat in the pub in the evening and both of us had a roast which had obviously been kept from lunch time. We were staggered when we asked for some more gravy as not much was given with the dinner, to be told there was a charge of £1.50 ! To cap that the jug was small and only half full … really saddened by this ! Breakfast was ok to be fair, quite limited and basic but ok. We are not complainers but will give an honest opinion , we did feed our comments back to the Bankes Arms on their own review request and have not received any response. In summary for what we paid to stay at The Bankes Arms we were really disappointed would not recommend or return.

"Needs some renovation, but team and setting absolutely perfect"

8.0

What a beautiful building externally. Parking is available if you turn passed the pub and left into the area behind its pub garden - a beautiful place to sit and have breakfast if the weather is good. You can see the castle from the building and the location is prime amongst the village. This does mean you hear every conversation or car through the old windows, however. The building and its rooms are in desperate need of some renovation, unfortunately. The FOH team are fab though, giving us access to our room early so we could get dressed for a wedding and just generally being really lovely throughout. Breakfast was included in our room price and was probably one of the best we’ve ever had. Food piping hot (even the toast!) and portions great. Needs some money spent on it and could be an idyllic place to stay.
