Hawley House

The woman who looks after the place was very friendly. She got in contact with us and let us check in in the evening after we arrived in Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania. Was very helpful and the room we were in was dog friendly, which was great since we brought a small dog over with us for the time down there Sophie makes the bread for breakfast in the morning for customers and provides some great local knowledge in the area if you had any questions. It was very convenient at such a late hour. My friend loved the stay there and we decided to go back for the last two nights in Tasmania due to the fond memories and its convenient location to Devonport when we had to leave early that morning to catch the Spirit back to the mainland.

For me, with phone coverage from ALDI using Telstra reception, it didn't give me more than one bar of phone reception while we were there. But that's how it is in some areas. So it was really my phone provider being unable to provide rather than anything wrong with the stay at Hawley House.

We loved all that Hawley House had to offer! Comfortable, luxurious rooms. Beautiful peaceful garden. A short walk to the beach. Sophie and her team made us feel right at home!

Room was quaint, quiet.

I realise we booked last minute but we should have been warned about the stairs. They were old stairs made from solid beams of wood but a bit uneven. My husband and I are 74 and 79 years old and found climbing the stairs very uncomfortable. We could not take our luggage upstairs so had to just take things we needed for next day. I think they should have something on the website about upstairs not being suitable for the elderly. The whole place is in need of some TLC from what we could see. It appeared that ground floor rooms were mostly for people with pets(dogs).

The grounds were stunning and the accommodation had an old-world charm that felt both interesting and homely. I particularly loved the artworks and antique furnishings throughout the house. Breakfast and the dining room were lovely. I really enjoyed the sitting area, especially in the morning with the sun pouring through the windows. I absolutely loved my room. It had the most comfortable bed and bedding I’ve experienced in accommodation and I slept incredibly well. The room felt cosy and comfortable. The view was STUNNING. Overall, Hawley House was a beautiful and memorable place to stay, full of character and warmth. Sophie is a wonderful host!
