OYO Devonshire Park Hotel

Very comfortable and clean hotel with friendly staff. Location was perfect for us. A hotel with character, in good condition and mostly un-modernised so had charm and interest as a building, it was not one of those soulless modern chain hotels. Nice cooked breakfast. The whole place had a very nice ambience and atmosphere

It is unusual for reviews of a hotel on Booking.com to be so different to the actual reality. I had not stayed at this hotel before on my many visits to Eastbourne, but based on the excellent reviews I decided to book at the Devonshire Park Hotel. On climbing the stairs to my room, it was obvious the condition of the hotel had deteriorated from the time the photographs used on the Booking.com website were taken. The stair carpet was threadbare in places. On entering my room the first thing I noticed was how badly stained the carpet was. The arms of two chairs in the room were black with dirt. The room furniture was shabby. The bathroom was not cleaned properly with hairs on the floor The underneath of the toilet seat was badly stained.

As a retired hotel manager, I tend to value customer service even more than the physical product itself. You can stay in a five-star hotel with poor service or a three-star hotel with five-star service, and this hotel certainly falls into the latter category. The staff were excellent throughout our stay, and Hugh deserves a special mention. His wealth of local knowledge, friendly approach, and genuine willingness to help made a real difference to our visit. He went above and beyond to ensure we got the most out of our stay, and his professionalism is a credit to the hotel. Thank you for making our short trip a success!
