Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina

We loved our stay at Scrub Island for 2 weeks! The Dive BVI trips were amazing. The High end restaurant Cardamon was fantastic. The property was beautiful and the spa was wonderful. The negative for us was the service at Donovan's reef was frustrating to say the least. And the drinks are way too small for the price charged. The bathroom in our one bedroom suite lacked privacy due to the open shutters leading into the room over the tub. Shower was small. When we did get to know the staff members, they were very friendly and we did make a few good friendships. The ferry service is good, and Marina Cay was good as well. The buffet on North Beach once a week is well worth the money and it would be nice if you could get some of that food on property at Donovans. Seared tuna, fresh fish, veggies, pig, jerk chicken. Mostly everything at Donovans is fried, and we enjoy the fresher foods. It would also be nice to have a resort schedule, we never knew what was going on with the North Beach, and other restaurants on certain days. The concierge was wonderful, and anytime we were missing something from our room, towels or coffee we called the front desk and only waited a few minutes for those items. The on site deli and store were super convenient and very good.

The staff was very attentive and kind. I stumbled across this because we needed one night in the area and can’t believe what we found! We were sad that we were only there one night. Definitely on the list to return. Private, beautiful, amazing service, lots to do and explore just on the island. Water trampoline, waterslide and the beach were big hits with my children. Enjoyed snorkeling and had the beach to ourselves. Our villa even had private beach access that we overlooked from our plunge pool. Full washer and dryer always makes this mom of 3 so happy. Book this place- you won’t regret it.

Another great stay at Scrub Island. We’ve stayed here 4 times over the years and love ending our BVI sailing trips here with a night or two in a hotel. The staff here is excellent! From Mellow at the marina docks to the amazing staff at Cardamon restaurant to the bell staff - they all make you feel welcome and like family. As other reviews have stated the rooms are starting to get a little tired and in need of a refresh, but that didn’t affect our stay at all. We love it here and can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful property with fantastic service.

Staff lacks personality, not very attentive. Adds a service charge per day to the bill when very little service was ever provided. Always had to ask for a drink, bill, towels, etc. and waited a while for each.

Unique resort situated on a small island. Was a Marriott brand and is now its own brand. Have stayed in the two and three bedroom homes. Homes are starting to see its age. Had issues with the hot water the entire time and maintenance didn’t understand what a hot water shower was. Had to let water run for 10 minutes to get luke warm water. Door to our bedroom was rusted, outside stairs and paint needed work. Bathroom shower door didn’t open all the way, air vents were very dirty with dust on the walls that surrounds the air returns. Restaurants were great. Staff lagged a little with attentiveness but got better by the end of the trip. Many people come to the resort to stay for the day. Hot tub isn’t hot at all but is always taken by the day guests. It would be nice if the homes had their own hot tubs instead of the cold pools.

I chose Scrub Island for several reasons. First, I wanted to celebrate Christmas with my two godchildren. Second, I was excited to share another of my favorite places to charter yacht guests. Third, I had an opportunity to write an article for ALL AT SEA magazine, focusing on promoting the Pig Roast and highlighting the spa and healthy eating options at the resort. We arrived on December 23rd, and everything seemed great initially. Our suite was spacious and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and attentive. For our first night, we dressed up and went to the fine dining restaurant for a reservation at 6 p.m. Unfortunately, it took over thirty minutes to receive our drinks and more than two hours for our dinner. My godson and I had excellent meals, but my goddaughter’s fish was overcooked. On Christmas Day, I asked to see where the pig was being prepared and cooked (for my article) but it seemed impossible to arrange. We booked the Pig Roast and the food was delicious. However, it was challenging to read the menu and make informed choices. That night, every time my goddaughter or godson used the bathroom, my toilet would gurgle loudly. At 8 a.m., we had two blocked toilets, I called the front desk, then called again at 9 a.m. and then at 10 a.m., the plumber finally arrived. In the meantime, we had to use the reception area’s toilet, which was inconvenient, and we were unable to use the shower. as it was overflowing, with the bathtub.. We waited around to see if there would be any improvement, but there was none. A friend from Tortola, arrived at the resort but was not allowed to board the ferry boat. The front desk finally called me, but they never informed me that we needed permission to have someone visiting. By that time, I had heard nothing from management regarding our suite. They finally told us around 1 p.m. that they would move us to equal accommodations that would be ready, at 2.15 pm; the new suite was not as good as the original. The drapes were falling down, and the patio furniture was damaged and dirty. I’m happy to share photos of the condition of the new suite. The next day, as we were about to leave, the management offered me a $200 credit, which I found quite insulting; we had wasted, a full day. I understand that things can go wrong, and that’s life—it’s not always perfect. However, the way Scrub Island handled the situation was not satisfactory. Having been in the travel industry for about 50 years and having traveled to 185 countries, so far! I can confidently say that Scrub Island is not a “high-end” destination. The only thing that could be considered “high-end” about it is the price. It was a very disappointing experience.

We absolutely adored the property! There was so much to do on Scrub, but then it was also easy to do a private boat day or ferry over to Marina Kay for other options. The staff were all absolutely amazing. The room was comfortable. Dining on the island was quite expensive but pretty good quality for the money. I would say the only negative was the lack of beach service. We adored North Beach because it was so private and beautiful, but one day there was a bigger crowd there with only one bartender. We never got any service even after asking twice on the other beach. Amazing views. The spa does not have luxury amenities but did have an incredible massage. The market and Rosalina who worked there were amazing!
