Club Wyndham Towers on the Grove

Long story short; My family was bumped from a reservation for a week's stay at Wyndham Towers on The Grove Resort just hours before check-in due to "availability issues" (?). Was told that my reservation would be honored at another resort, which happened to be 40+ minutes away and a mile from the ocean. I had reserved in December and received assurances just days before our scheduled stay that my booking was set. If you look through reviews then anyone booking here should fear this happening to them. Take a look at Google reviews with 1* and it's clear that this is not a rare occurrence, and that they have overbooked previously and dumped their reservations on a far away Wyndham resort at the last minute. Being from NY I compare it to cancelling a Manhattan booking and instead getting sent upstate. Read on for my sad tale... Booked a week here (1BR) for my family with points 4+ months prior to our stay. Five days before the check-in date I called the resort to confirm our stay there and was told confidently by the clerk that I was all good, and then two days before checking in I got an email reminding me my stay was only two days away!! But at 9:30 AM on the morning of my check-in I received a phone call and then an e-mail telling me that there were "availability issues" and that my reservation at this resort "cannot be accommodated". I was also told that my reservation would be honored at Grand Palm Villas, which is 45 minutes and 30 miles away and is not oceanfront. We were already at a hotel overnight halfway into our 12 hour drive and scrambled to find a replacement oceanfront condo. I had spent a good amount of time vetting Towers on the Grove and after looking didn't feel comfortable with any of those (non-Wyndham resorts) that were still available last minute. So, given the circumstances we felt we had no choice at that time but to accept the offer of Grand Palms. Keep in mind that FOR MONTHS I had gotten my kids excited about staying oceanfront, with almost every activity we planned and booked being in or near North Myrtle Beach. I don't want to cast any aspersions on Grand Palms, however it's NOT in North Myrtle Beach, not even in Myrtle Beach itself and not even near the ocean. I didn't get what I ordered or paid for. In 40 years of renting houses, condos and hotels I've ever experienced or heard of someone being bumped LAST MINUTE from a week's accommodations. (except at this resort apparently). Our entire planned vacation was flipped on it's head last minute with the only offered alternative being to accept a week that didn't resemble the one we booked.

We come to Myrtle Beach for Thanksgiving every year for over 10 years, and most of the time, we stay at Towers on the Grove . Love it!!

The property was clean. The staff was beyond professional. The grounds were well kept no weird smells. I will definitely be staying again.

I like the location and access to the beach area was very easy, ocean view was amazing, the pool area was good for both children and adults with the depth. The room had everything we needed in our rooms from shampoo conditioner, body wash, hand soap,, lotion. Full size kitchen, refrigerator, ice-maker, washier dryer, pool towels, with all appliances, pots/pans w/ utensils, blender, microwave, coffee machine, and the all toiletries for both bathroom and kitchen, plus more. Beautiful balcony to view ocean and pool area.

I did not like that the parking deck was not attached to the the Resort, and not fond of the hideaway bed, but a neat idea to give space and still accommodate family size.
