Bed was comfortable

I booked this for my son and his partner for a 2 night stay. On the 1st night the toilet flush broke in the en-suite. There were no staff available until the next morning and they were told at 9am that someone would come and fix it within 30 minutes. When they left the hotel at midday nobody had spoken to them and they were told that a plumber would be coming to fix it on Monday. The hotel is closed after 10.30pm with no access to shared areas so they were essentially left without a working toilet for more than half of their stay. On top of this the room was unbearably warm and there was no access to open a window and no fan provided. Staff were unavailable most of the time and rude and unhelpful when they were. This was £170 for 2 night so not cheap. I then emailed the hotel to complain and didn't get any response. If I were the people running this hotel I would be embarrassed.

Excellent location , very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Cold shower

Staff were friendly and helpful, there was a problem with our room but it was sorted out to our satisfaction. Rooms were very comfortable and clean.

A lot of stairs to the rooms and only way in and out between 10pm and 10am is via the fire escape stairs. Also we had booked dinner for 7.30 and unfortunately our food arrived before our cocktails ( yes I know this is a 1st world problem) , staff apologised and then didn’t get offered a dessert or further drinks.We went to the bar for drinks but we had to leave at 9.45 which seemed a bit early for a pub on a Saturday night.Also there seemed no offer of breakfast even though it was mentioned in the booking information. Not a problem though as we went to Barter Books for breakfast.

The position.

Our room was nothing like the room in the photos. The furniture and wallpaper were good but the bed was incredibly soft. The room was next to a fire escape door which is used as the way in for everyone once the bar has closed. It was noisy but worse still was that the window blind didn’t fall to the bottom of the window so everything and everyone in the room was on view to anyone using that way in. In fairness, a member of staff did manage to free it after struggling with it for some time. We were also surprised that a hotel didn’t offer breakfast.

Convenient location in centre of Alnwick. Onsite parking.

Rooms are quite small. No breakfast available though we had breakfast at the nearby Barter's bookshop (in converted railway station) which was fun.
