Grand Mercure Vadodara Surya Palace Hotel

Check-in process was smooth although we arrived late (~4AM). I had called the hotel earlier and notified about the late check-in. Room was very clean. Air condition was working well. Bathroom door was not sliding easy and it was a little iffy. We didn't notify the front desk of this issue because didn't have any energy left to swap rooms at 4AM. Bed was comfortable and linens were ok. Quality of linens could be improved. One of the weirdest thing about the room was a window that was facing the wall. There was no natural light coming in the room. Had I known that there would be no natural light coming in the room, I'd have definitely asked to swap the rooms. There was a curtain in front of the window and we didn't open the curtain, before we went to bed, to check the "view". Overall, the room was in a good condition although wear and tear were visible in some decor and the stay was comfortable. The hotel accepted the request for late check-out. We had very minimal interaction with the staff but they were helpful. We didn't use any other facilities.

The rooms are a bit small and it took them forever (read: days) to bring me a working safe and restock the minibar, but all in all it is a great place to stay. It is very clean and the staff has the right attitude which is very important. Plus the hotel is actually wheelchair accessible and the accessible bathroom is great.

Nice hotel courteous staff. We stayed 6 nights at the hotel. Staff added a third bed in the premium club room for our son which fit well in the spacious room. It is best hotel in town. We also arranged a get together for 100 guests at the fifth Ave banquet hall. All arrangements handled efficiently by the hotel. Breakfast and meals are nice at the hotel. Airport pickup executed efficiently.

Had I known that Surya Palace Hotel was still doing renovations, I would never have booked a 3-week vacation there. I have returned home tired. Out of the 3 weeks I had exactly 3 mornings when I was not awakened by noisy guests outside my door by 7AM in the morning. And at 9 AM on all days, including Saturdays and Sundays, the construction crews began pounding on their renovations. It went on all day until 6PM; endless hammering, grinding sounds, and pounding with demolition tools. The corners of the room were dirty, the bathroom had slime mold in the corner by the shower, which I cleaned myself immediately since I am allergic to mold. When I in my usual custom wiped the walls with my washcloth after the shower, the back of the shower wall gave off brown stain, similar to hard water stain, as if it was never cleaned before. Even though the bathroom appears to be remodeled not too long ago, it is showing a lot of wear and tear already, due to poor construction work. I.e. the mirror moved each time I opened the door, and upon inspection I found that it was not screwed into the wall. The final day there I ran across two nasty cockroach type bugs that were camping out in the information book on the desk. I left them on the floor for the staff to find when they cleaned next. The food was excellent and the courtesy staff was well trained and friendly. There is no washer and dryer to do ones own laundry, as noted in the online hotel description .
