Hilton Garden Inn Ames

Great place to stay at. Staff are friendly and nice. Hotel is well kept.

The hotel was a good place but nothing write home about. Breakfast was $10.00 for a buffett that was comparable to others that are typically included in the room rate but not here. The thing I did not like was the air conditioning. When it came on, it made so much noise I could not hear the television and had to increase the volume. It also made this noise during the night as it came on several times waking up my wife.

Room cleaning seemed very rushed—food in the kitchenette sink, hairs around the bathroom sink, lightbulbs burnt out.

Excellent stay!! Staff was very friendly night and day. You have to pass the check in booth very close to enter so the front desk sees everyone coming and going from the front. We got Chicken tenders & fries and Street tacos for dinner. They were both delicious, warm and good portion. Stopped by bar before close the the manager was nice to talk to and made great drinks. Pool and hot tub are a bit small but not a lot of people there so didn’t feel crowded. The gym had everything you need to do a quick workout. The room was large (we had 2 beds) and quiet. They are doing some renovations so some of the paint looks spotty but not terrible. The rest of the hotel looked excellent and brand new with a large lobby to relax in with a drink or breakfast. We will be staying here next time we are in Ames.

The location is great and they have a nice little pool area. The breakfast is nice. The area for breakfast is pleasant and really nice to hang around in.

The maid tries to skip doing the rooms. Each day I would carefully place the “maid service please” thing on the doorknob. Then I would return later to see it on the floor in the hallway. Our room wouldn’t get any cleaning or maid service unless I requested it by complaining that the maid was slipping our room. So we had to use wet towels and our bed was not being made regularly. We did get maid service after I complained the last day. Once day I even returned twice in the afternoon to check if the maid had come. She had not come. The pillows in this hotel are 5 years past worn out. They are completely flat. The bathrooms are not clean. The toilet in our room didn’t flush. I made the reservation months in advance and got a noisy room. Kids were running in the hallways, shouting at night and knocking on doors and running away. They pranked our room. The staff in this hotel are not happy and they do not greet the customers. They look depressed.

We were here for a 2 night stay for an OM competition. This location is fairly new and is only about a 10 minute drive from the school and their main area where all of the restaurants are. I would stay here again if I am ever back in the area. I reserved an evolution room and didn't realize that is was a handicapped accessible room but it was spacious and I didn't mind. Friendly service from the front desk work and maintenance crew. The hotel was clean. My only issue was the fact that I could tell the floor in our room hadn't been vacuumed. All in all, it was a pleasant stay at a reasonable rate.
