Hyland Motel Van Nuys

I did a reservation and upon checking in the woman walked away with my license. When she returned I asked her what that was about then a man who I presume to be the owner came and said that I had to do a hold which was fine but then said no smoking in the room which again was fine what caught me off guard was when he said if I had company in the 3 days I was there that he would keep the deposit. It was something about the way he said it that did not sit right with me. I told him that was weird and that he was giving weird vibes. Was he actively watching the guest that check in? He got upset when I told him he was being strange and said he no longer wanted to rent to me, luckily Expedia got me a better location. He then went onto say how he actively rents to people coming out of jail. I have no idea what that had to do with the conversation or transaction. It was late and it seemed that the people checking in where on the shady side so no real loss, but the owner seems to be a little on the eccentric side. I won’t be coming to rent again much better options in the area.

This is a decent place for the price and area. This motel has a manager/owner that is on top of most things. There are things the hotel can control and there are things that are out of their control, and you must remember that when booking. The hotel can’t control homeless people wandering in the parking lot, but if you let someone know, they will take care of it. Homelessness is rampant all over LA tho. Having a microwave and fridge is very helpful. WiFi worked great and television was fine. I only had one mishap while staying. I was in the shower and the housekeeping came in. I yelled from the shower that I would be leaving in 5 minutes, but she had my bed stripped and was putting sheets on it when I came out of the bathroom, naked. I immediately put the towel around my waist and asked her to leave so I can get dressed. She left but never came back to finish cleaning the room. I even waved at her when I left the room saying it’s ok to clean now. When I returned that night, I had no pillow cases and had to use a sheet to cover the pillows. To give her the benefit of the doubt, it may have been a language barrier. You can tell the place was remodeled. I was in town for business so I just need a place to lay my head that was somewhat safe and not too expensive. I’ll probably stay here again.

MANAGER was extremely rude and the place sucked. Would not recommend to anybody.

I was not even able to stay there he was super quick when my niece came along to not want to rent me another room inatead said you go somewhere else i have no vacancy. Ended up paying way more somewhere else

Overall a solidly good stay but there were a couple things of note that could have been improved. Despite having a shower / bath tub combo, there no way to block the tub to fill for a bath. Each night stand (2) had power outlets affixed to them but only one of the outlets / stands was operational. And there was a very noticeable dent / hole in the floor near the tv stand where it appeared something very heavy had been dropped causing the damage.

I never leave reviews, but over the weekend I traveled by myself & stayed at this hotel. The man in the front office during check-in/check out was very nice & welcoming, hotel is gated & opens only with a room key which made me feel safer & room was very clean. I will definitely book here again in the future.
