We recently stayed at Med Playa Hotel Calypso as a family and overall had a good holiday. The hotel is clean, well maintained, and our family room was a good size with plenty of space. The food was generally good, with a decent variety available throughout our stay, and the all-inclusive package represented good value overall. The nightly entertainment for children was enjoyable, and having a shop on-site was very convenient. Most of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. That said, there were a few areas where the hotel could improve. The snack offering for all-inclusive guests between meal times was quite limited, and it was disappointing to be charged extra for use of the room safe. The outdoor pools are not heated, which is fairly standard and wasn’t an issue in itself. However, the availability of the pools seemed inconsistent during our stay, with some pools open and others closed without any obvious explanation. The biggest drawback for us was the size and atmosphere of the hotel. It is a very large resort, with the restaurant catering for hundreds of guests at a time. While this will suit many visitors, families looking for a quieter holiday may find it less appealing during busy periods. During our stay there were several large family and youth groups. There was no serious bad behaviour, but some groups of older children were often loud and inconsiderate around communal areas. We also felt that staff could have been more proactive at times. Pool supervision seemed quite passive, and security did not always intervene when disagreements between guests became heated. Overall, this is a clean, good-value hotel with decent food, good facilities, and plenty to keep children entertained. However, its large size and the type of groups it attracts during peak periods may not make it the best choice for families seeking a more relaxed and peaceful holiday experience.

We are here on holiday at the moment, I didn’t expect much from the hotel at all if the reviews were anything to go by. However, I am pleased to say it’s been a pleasant stay. The hotel is no where near a 4 star I will say that, it is clean and tidy from what we’ve seen this week, the beds were made daily and clean towels everyday, we had a double family room and it was very small, we had a cot and we were like sardines . The staff are friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant is another story.. very limited choice, very repetitive items and takes a long time for empty dishes to be replenished don’t think they can cope with a large influx of people at one time. The main pool isn’t overly big and gets very busy, not enough sun loungers available and definitely not enough parasols, you have to be quick in the morning to get one, the pool isn’t really suitable for little ones as it’s over run with kids and floaties. Lots to do in the surrounding areas. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants and the beach is about a 20 minute walk away down a busy strip. Near by Tarragona was a good day out, we seen the amphitheatre and Cathedral, it is steeped in history lots to take in for the more cultured visitor. The buses are regular into Tarragona and Salou itself. This has been my first visit to Salou, I would return again just wouldn’t stay at this hotel.
