The Hotel Elena is set in the Piazza Cardona, a vibrant square in Stresa. It is a traditional, friendly, family run hotel. Our room at the front of the hotel, had a balcony looking over the Piazza, with views of the surrounding mountains For us, it was the perfect vibrant location, sited in a Piazza, containing numerous restaurants, cafes and shops, yet only a short walk to the lake and ferry terminus. One word of caution, due to the location of our room overlooking the Piazza, there was a good deal of conversational noise emanating from the restaurants below. We enjoyed this, as it added to the surrounding ambience, but it may not appeal to everyone.
It is really hard to believe this is only a one star hotel. It is right in the centre of town in a lovely square full of restaurants and only 5 mins from the lake/ferries. The rooms are very clean and well cared for, all have a small balcony with table/chairs and lovely to sit and watch the world go by. The breakfast has a good choice of rolls/croissants etc and topped up regularly. English is spoken and staff all very helpful. This is definitely one not to miss if you want a clean well appointed place to stay at a reasonable price.
How this hotel is only a one star is beyond belief! We stayed in lake garda in a three star hotel and this is as good as.Situated in a lovely square a stones throw from lake,boats.We went in may which was not too busy but weather was a bit changeable but warm.We stayed in room 418,top floor at back of hotel,views of rooftops and mountains were pleasant as the front of hotel faced the square which gets the hot afternoon sun and a bit of noise from the square. Hotel is a bit dated but quaint,clean and very nice hosts who helped with any query.I like cooked breakfast but we got continental as expected,very nice though but same choice everyday.We would return here but Lake Maggiore is not as nice as Lake Garda.
Having booked to stay 5 nights, on the basis of reviews from websites/guidebooks we left after the first night. The establishment is a very basic one star establishment which did not meet our expectations. The bedroom had not been cleaned to an acceptable standard and we had to wipe down surfaces including tables and headboards which were noticeably dusty. The walls were very thin and noise of snoring could be heard from adjoining room. The lack of air conditioning was also a factor for us.
Interesting to watch square during the evening from our balcony and room. Owner allowed me to use internet on 3 occasions to check on upcoming reservation in another city. Good breakfast.
VERY CLEAN SMALL HOTEL SITUATED VERY CENTRALLY IN STRESA. TO FIND TAKE SMALL STREET TO THE LEFT OF THE TOWN HALL BLUE BUILDING WITH CLOCK AT TOP. HOTEL JUST AS YOU ENTER SQUARE ON LEFT. FROM MILAN MALPENSA TOOK ALIBUS SAF TO STRESA. DROPPED OFF AT BOAT BOOKING OFFICE. BREAKFAST MORE THAN SUFFICIENT TO SET YOU UP FOR THE DAY. C&E SEPT 11
Good clean well sized room with a good shower. Decent breakfast. Helpful staff. Exceeded our expectations of a 1 star establishment.
