Liked: Close to city centre, helpful and friendly staff Did not like: Car noise in the early morning hours audible from balcony room facing street

I think the only place to start with this review is the receptionists…. The ladies on reception are the most welcoming and friendly people. They are more than happy to help with anything. As soon as we got to the hotel we were greeted with a warm welcome. They were also very knowledgeable about the area. The room was perfect with a balcony and large wardrobe. The beds were really comfortable too. We only spent 3 nights here but every day the rooms were cleaned (and tidied) with fresh towels. Breakfast was fresh & tasty every morning woth a great selection for every taste. All areas ofvthe hotel were kept spotless clean at all times. The roof terrace with chairs, lounges and pool was perfect for sunny days! The hotel is very close to the city centre within a few minutes walk of all the top attractions. Although it is close it was still quiet on an evening as it is on a little side/back street. We mentioned upon booking in that it was our first time in Funchal and we were here celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. 2 days later on the date of our anniversary the staff left a bottle of fizz in our room with a beautiful card. We were so overwhelmed that they had listened and remembered. It was so thoughtful. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and when we return to Funchal i wouldn’t book anywhere else but here!

Only thing nice about this Hotel (Hostel) was the staff. Breakfast very bad, coffee not drinkable, no facilities whatsoever, very old and dated, very noisy, was more like a Hostel, no tea/coffee machine in rooms, Wouldn’t return

Nous avons passé deux nuits à l’hôtel. Nous avons été très bien accueilli par José Carlos et le reste de l’équipe. Très sympathiques et attentionnés. Les chambres sont propres, bien équipées. L’hôtel est très bien situé Je recommande

Good location, with balcony, no AC but there is a fan and when we went, it was 18C outside. If you are hiking or touring early, they can prepare a mini breakfast for you which is pretty awesome. Otherwise, the regular breakfast is @ 7:30 and it’s pretty good. They still use manual keys for door locks. Has a pool but we didn’t use it. Helpful staff.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Very central location so just a short walk to everything. The staff are lovely and welcoming and can’t do enough for the guests

I stayed at this pleasant hotel during April 23-26 while on a guided hiking trip around Madeira. It is conveniently located in downtown Funchal. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel offers a broad selection of hot and cold items at their breakfast buffet. I especially liked the fresh fruit salad, yogurt, granola, scrambled eggs, and variety of breads offered every morning. I was happy with my room on the 4th floor, which had a large balcony, comfy bed, ceiling fan, room safe, and abundant number of towels (which came in handy when I needed to wash some clothes in the tub with my fragrance-free detergent). My room was quiet, although I could occasionally hear people next door. I would open the sliding glass door at night for a bit to let the cooling breeze in. The cleaning staff also left this door open a few inches during the day. The temperature in my room was comfortable for sleeping at night. I’m not sure if that would be the case in the warmer summer months. The rooms do not have air conditioning, and there are no screens on the sliding glass door to keep mosquitoes and flies out. For late April, it was perfect. I didn’t have a chance to visit the rooftop pool, which is unheated. Some people in our hiking group swam in it. Overall, I was very pleased with this hotel.
