Hotel Orca Praia - Adults Only

The only good thing about this hotel was the view which could be had at several other hotels in Funchal.

Absolutely horrible accessibility and communication from the hotel. Parking is NOT free, the paid parking lot is steep and uphill, and the receptionists are uncompromisingly rude. An old, wrinkled carpet is at the entrance that caused myself and four others I witnessed to trip and nearly injure themselves. The walk to the pool is long and they don’t inform you that you need to get pool towels from reception (10+ floors above) until you are down the hill. Completely inaccessible for my father who recently had his foot surgery. Ironically, when we requested ice at reception for his foot they said we had to go down to the pool (again, a very far and steep walk) to get it himself. Once we reached the bottom the employee at the pool gazebo waved us away and only spoke in English (completely refusing to communicate in Portuguese). The entire building is old and quite literally falling apart. The bathroom toilet was no longer attached to the floor and tilted when you sat. It also made a 5-minute long, high pitched whistle whenever it was flushed. The shower pressure was bad and there were insects in the room. The “double bed” is two twin beds in a double bed frame making it extremely uncomfortable. Furthermore, the walls are thin and the noise was constant. The breakfast buffet is simply inedible. Powdered eggs, rotten fruit, and stale, purchased pastries were all they had to offer. The hotel offers WiFi codes which expire daily, could only be used on one device and even then, don’t work. It was a horrendous experience overall.

Booked in here after flight cancellation .The staff were helpful & friendly .The price included breakfast which was good .The room was clean & comfortable Kettle & bags provided & a well.stocked fridge
