Medplaya Hotel Rio Park

Just returned from Rio park and sad to have to make this review but this hotel has gone down hill fast .Ive been going to this hotel for over 40 years and is not a 4 star hotel . It needs a good make over again very dirty in bedroom and other areas.There is much better hotels available less stars than this and better . There is one lad in the hotel having to entertain the whole hotel,who is fantastic in wot he does but poor for a big hotel , I requested a low floor and pool view didn’t get any only to be put on the 8 th floor and told nothing they could do and use the glass lifts which don’t work at night and where broken down so not good walking up 8 floors every night , Food is very poor and not much choice .sorry to write this but it needs to be addressed before it’s too late and won’t recommend this hotel anymore

I’ll start with the good because it wasn’t all bad. Some staff were really pleasant. Was a wide selection of different food every night and it was really nice. Nothing was left empty and tasted fresh. Breakfast was pretty decent too. I couldn’t fault the cleaner on our floor (5), towels and bedding changed constant and room cleaned to a good standard. But another family member on floor (9) didn’t have a good experience. It’s also in a good location not far from the beach. However unfortunately with this hotel the bad outweighs the good. I’ll start with the lifts. There are 12 floors with 5 lifts in total, and they barely work. We were talking to a disabled guy who was wheelchair bound on floor 12 who waited an hour just to get downstairs. We rarely used the lifts being on floor 5 only when we had heavy bags etc, but anyone with mobility issues I would steer clear of booking this hotel. The cleanliness round the pool and the public restrooms are shocking. Bins constantly overflowing and start to smell in the heat. The toilets on 2 occasions we witnessed poo in both male and female literally up the walls, on the seats, everywhere!! Never seen anything like it. Took the TUI rep to get it sorted as reception didn’t really seem too interested, and the rep didn’t seem very happy so not sure how long this hotel will be available through TUI in the future. Apart from my room being clean the rest of the hotel wasn’t that great. Coming down the stairs if you hold the hand rail your hands are black by the time you get to the bottom. The pool also didn’t seem to have a set time it was open. It’s cordoned off on a night, and you could be waiting till close to 11 before they decide to open it. People were getting that sick they were just opening it themselves and going in. Not sure if they’re short staffed or what but something needs to change. Aircon was pretty poor as well. All in all my stay wasn’t bad and definitely not the worst hotel I’ve stayed at, but nowhere near the best.

I would not Recommend this hotel to anyone. I was there seven days and out of the seven days the lifts did not work six of them. You could wait for 30 mins to get a lift back to your room. The cleanliness was not very good. I reported the toilets more than one time. The fool was pretty basic and I did not enjoy my stay there and I will never be staying there again.

Stayed at this hotel from 26th May to 2nd June. The que to get checked in was horrendous and slow. This is not what you need after spending a full day travelling. The sun loungers were really uncomfy and half where broken and resulted in you getting a bad back. We were placed on the 10th floor with a crap view. Also 2 out of the 5 lifts where broken majority of the holiday which meant either waiting 30 mins for a lift or using the stairs. This was ok going down but an horrible experience walking up especially after eating. This made me feel physically sick afterwords. I often saw elderly and people with prams walking up and down the stairs. This looked a real struggle for them and was sad to witness. The shower was a night mare. It was either too hot or too cold and was really slow. I dreaded using this due to it scolding my sun burn a few times. The hotel really do need to try rectify this. Only pros was dinner was nice 3 nights out of the 7. The entertainment was ok and there was always plenty of seats in the show bar. Also the beds were made daily which was nice. The floors were also mopped but didnt appear to have been swept so there was still dirt all over the floor. Cooked breakfast was horrid and didnt look nice in appearance. I went once then was instantly put off. When I did re-visit I stuck to cerial. I would rate this hotel a 2 star at best. I would not reccomend and would not return. It was far too expensive for what you get in return. I couldnt wait to leave the place. Ive visited many hotels in benidorm and this one has got to be one of the worst.
