The George of Colchester

Reception, bar and lounge area's are to be proud of and very impressive. Location is great with lots of different bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Did not get to see the inside of any rooms, as our room that we had booked for two nights had been damaged by the previous occupant. We were offered an apartment adjacent to hotel building, which was adequate but not to the same decor as the re-furbished hotel. Having to leave the building to go to your room made us feel like we were not really a part of the hotel and detracted from the overall stay.

Good location with (paid for) public parking directly behind the hotel. Staff very friendly, we had a newly refurbished room which was spacious and clean and breakfast was good. The public areas get very crowded as the hotel's bar is popular with locals, it is a shame that after the public bar service closes there is no option for hotel residents to be served a later night cap. All in all a pleasant stay with very friendly and helpful staff.

Lovely hotel. Decor was amazing and room very comfortable. However the car park was difficult to find as my satnav kept directing me to dead ends due to being on a 1 way system. Very stressful during rush hour. Stayed here as was working in the area, wasn't expecting another guest to bang on the door and wake us up at 4am. He was banging and shouting for a solid 10 minutes. Luckily my partner stayed with me as this would have been even scarier and very intimidating had I been staying alone. Someone from reception did come up to resolve the matter when called but the guest continued to bang around and we later heard him being sick from the room next door. Very poor night sleep before an important full day of work.

The hotel is in a central position in the town a high Street and has paid parking to the rear - parking is open for public use too. The public areas of the hotel are nicely furnished and decorated, the bar and restaurant are comfortable and prices are comparable with local pubs and restaurants. The bar is very popular with locals and residents. Our room was on the second floor and the upper staircase was very steep. We were offered help with our bags. The room was small but nicely furnished and the bathroom was lovely. Not very practical for sitting in, as only one upright chair and no room for more, but we didn’t mind for only 2 nights. The staff were delightful! Helpful and friendly, they were always around and very efficient.

Our stay here was a pleasant one. We came for the famous firework display. The accommodation is a one would expect. Staff very friendly and more than helpful. Bathroom immaculate. The only down side was the lack of tea bags, which i an sure would have been rectified had i called down. The parking is behind the hotel and is payable on site. A fee of £9.50 for 24 hours. Would recommend to anyone.

Would stay again. Hotel has been refurbished and rooms are nicely sized and well decorated. Great location.
