"AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!!!"

2.0

This is an honest review of The Brooks Hotel Edinburgh. We arrived to this place and from the first second I saw the front doors, I knew this place was filthy. The glass on the doors was so filthy that u couldn't see through it. We were seated in the lounge area because our room wasn't ready. We were in complete shock when I saw the condition of the furniture. This is nothing like the website photos. The dirt and cobwebs were everywhere . Torn chairs, dirty lampshades, filthy tablets etc. I couldn't believe my eyes, seriously this place is a dirty den. The bedroom was the worst, broken bed, mouldy horrible disgusting carpet, mouldy shower. I don't even think this place should be allowed open to the public, it should be closed by the health authorities!! We moved after 6 hours on the phone with expedia, try to get them to move us, which they did in the end after a very exhausting and shocking day. On your first day of your trip, you should be enjoying yourself. Ours was ruined. Please take my advice and believe the bad reviews, they are true!!! This place should come with a health warning ⚠️

"Nice staff but poor quality hotel with awful security "

4.0

Firstly, the hotel bears little resemblance to the photos on its site (and this one). Positives - the room was clean and everything worked, staff friendly and location great. Lots of negatives though. The whole building is in disrepair - frayed carpet on the stairs, flaking paint on the walls, curtains falling off, rusty towel rail, peeling shower door seal etc. When you sat on the bed your bum hit the boards underneath, the mattress was so thin (although, in fairness it was ok to sleep on for an average sized adult). There were no instructions in the room for the radiator and heated towel rail (turned out you got no hot water in the shower unless you switched the towel rail on). There was no wifi signal at all in our room. Breakfast selection was poor, only 1 bacon rasher and poor quality sausage. Security was really bad. We mistakenly locked our key in the room so asked the receptionist to let us in, which he did with no questions asked at all. When we left our bags to collect later after checking out it turned out they'd been left in an open room available for anyone to access past the often unmanned reception.
