Château de Gilly

We needed an overnight destination on our trip from Avignon to Paris, and some how came across the Chateau de Gilly just outside of Dijon in the heart of the Bourgogne wine region. What a marvelous experience. The Chateau is heart of Gilly which is the most charming French village we encountered on a tour de France. The Chateau has roots going back eight or nine centuries, but is thoroughly modern. The rooms are huge, extremely comfortable and delightful. The gardens are filled with animal sculpture and river that borders the southern edge beautiful. Everything was absolutely perfect. Given that the Chateau is in a remote village, the restaurant is pretty much your only choice. Fortunately it is extremely good with a huge wine list focusing on the Bourgogne. it is also very expensive. I can't wait to get back!!!

We chose this as a stop over big mistake easily worth a 3 day break mid France. Superb old chateau rooms excellent food exquisite. Will defiantly return for longer

we were disappointed that such a fabulous building from the outside appeared to be so unkept on the inside. The rooms were very ordinary and to get a plastic glass in the bathroom at this level of accommodation is very poor.we were looking forwards to our evening meal, the dining room is fantastic but the food was poor and not really to the standard expected of such an establishment. The bread was old and tough and so was the beef. unfortunately the waiter argued with us, not a good thing to do. We did give us a discount for our troubles but it never replaces the loss of enjoyment.

The hotel is beautiful on the outside, but very disappointing inside. Old, tired and dirty We stayed in this hotel two years ago and it was a very pleasant stay. This time we booked the hotel for two nights but left after the first night. Very disappointing experience! I would not recommend this hotel.

Beautiful place we had a lovely nights stay with evening meal - very special.

Nice Hotel, price compared to value not worth, drinks to expensive for what you get. service ok, When we arrived midnight there was nobody at the reception, everybody could take keys etc, elevator should be adjusted to every floor ( 1-3 cm difference), Hotel is not good for handicapped persons, to many steps. Breakfast 23,00 is to expensive and should be in the price of the room.
