"A nice hotel"

6.0

The room was good but there was no shower and there was no hot water. With regards to the restaurant, excellent menu, wine list and the staff. But the starter and main course were tasteless, the desert was full of flavour. The breakfast, there was a good choice, but at €22 per person, this was expensive. Overall, a well maintained property, nice surroundings, but was let down by points raised.

"Great setting, but could do better"

6.0

We were slightly concerned upon arrival that our booking could not be found. Given this was Easter break and many other hotels were full, we were concerned what might happen. It turned out to be a case of getting first and last names mixed up. However, a few things bothered us, which cumulatively meant our stay wasn't all we'd hoped for. The room smelled musty - perhaps that was the age of the building. The pool, which claimed to be heated, wasn't. The wifi was non existent in our room, and when we asked after it, we were told to try the common areas. Still no wifi. And the formal dinner was very formal, but the food wasn't up to scratch! If they could fix all these things though, it would be a magnificent place.

"Breath Taking-A step back in time"

10.0

We stayed at this hotel on route to my father-in-laws where we were expected Christmas morning. The staff was great and genuinely helpful. We had a fantastic Christmas eve dinner and I thank them deeply for accommodating us without reservations. They noticed our 5 year old and suggested we upgrade to the room in the tower which was more spacious. The view from the tower was amazing and oversaw endless fields. The room was clean and comfortable with the exception of the tub. The bathroom was enormous and comfortable for newlyweds or couples celebrating a special occasion. Cons: Plan for the elevator. It can only accommodate one passenger and one luggage at at time, or do as we did, send the luggage to your floor and have someone wait for it at its destination. Con 2; We had an enormous bathroom but no shower. We simply did not have enough time for a bath so we had to squad in the tub and use the shower head to cleanse our bodies, like little children. For the amount of money it cost to stay one would expect to have the simplicity and convenience of a shower. In spite, I look forwards to making another stop here in the near future. I would definitely go back.

"Great Place to Stay and Wonderful Location"

8.0

Location, staff, Restaurant all superb but let down by quality of Superior Room. At 265 Eu Per Night it was a bit of a disappointment. That being said the quality of service and cuisine in the restaurant was outstanding. The Restaurant staff on duty that night which was Wednesday 24th July were superb and I should mention that because the Restaurant Manager deemed it right for whatever reason, to visibly give them a hard time. Not my business, but when my children pick up on it, professionalism has to be called into question. However, my opinion is that the Restaurant staff without question worked very hard and were very courteous and respectful. A job well done!

"romantic spot in rural France"

10.0

Charming little chateau on the outskirts of Chinon, beautiful grounds and rural setting. attentive friendly staff, almost all who spoke enough English that my lack of French was not an issue. Fabulous 5 star resturant, easily our best meal in France.

"Beautiful hotel"

10.0

This is a beautiful place to stay, although the map printed from the website indicated it was quite close to town (Chinon) which it is not.

"HIGHLY recommend!"

10.0

If you have ever wanted to stay in an authenic chateuax, then this is the one! Château de Marçay is absolutely wonderful in every way - from the minute you turn off the road and drive through the line of trees until you have to depart........we wanted to stay longer. Definitely going back. Large rooms w/ updated bathrooms - marble, etc......the entire chauteuax is lovely. 8 course dinner which was totally incredilble. You also can order al la carte, delicious breakfasts. Attentive staff - very helpful. Excellent chateaux wines - esp the Rose. As you can see we LOVED every wonderful minute of our stay.

"Countryside Luxury"

8.0

This hotel was situated in quiet beautiful fields of green and gold. It had lovely warm golden-colored stone walls and well manicured gardens. Our second storey room was spacious with a small sitting area and firm comfortable beds . The spotless white linens and robes provided a nice touch of luxury. Dinner in your delightful restaurant was of the highest quality, however the service was much to formal for this countryside location. It would be much nicer if the staff could dress more casually instead of black suits and ties for all the serving staff. When I am in such a lovely rural setting, I much prefer more casual yet smart apparel for the staff. Also, it seems that more and more these days, the breakfast is greatly overpriced for a cold buffet, but you have not choice in this situation but to pay the high rate.

Small rooms are really, really small. Luckily they have plenty of space in the lounge to allow you to relax.

"Chateau Marcay, Chinon"

10.0

An excellent hotel as you would expect at this price point. But some minor gripes: the service in the restaurant was tortuously slow on the first night, and a standard breakfast of bread basket and coffee at €14 is poor value (money and nutrition) for a location that is surrounded by fresh fruit.
