Quinta de Sao Thiago

It was incredible to stay in a home that is like a living museum. A truly beautiful setting...though it takes some effort to get there!

It didn't make visiting Sintra easy. I would recommend public transport from Lisbon for a day trip. There were no luxury touches, it feels like you are staying at your grandma's house. Old towels, dated bedding but it feels like home.

Beautiful historic Quinta with lovely grounds and pool area. Breakfast was substantial including cakes and fruit plus eggs, bacon, breads, cereals. The family style breakfast table led to many fun conversations and chatter with other guests which we enjoyed. Our room had a sitting room too with a fridge which we appreciated. Don’t expect hotel style finish, this is an historic building and some bits are a little ‘aged’, but we felt this just added to the charm.

As is clear in the description, there is no air conditioning and this proved difficult when the temperature was over 35. It’s a little pricey as a B and B. Road down to the Quinta is very rough, take it easy as you could damage your car!

Teresa the host was amazing! She showed us around the house and shared her family story with us, making us feel very welcome. The most beautiful house we’ve ever seen, very clean and the pool has an incredible view. At night you can see all the stars! Definitely recommend

Très belle bâtisse pleine de charme, avec superbe piscine toujours ensoleillée. Chambre spacieuse avec très bonne literie. Petit déjeuner excellent. Hôtesse accueillante.

Le seul point négatif est le chemin d’accès pour arriver jusqu’à l’hôtel qui est fort chaotique

La casa es del siglo XVI conservando todo el encanto de lo antiguo. El entorno es precioso. La piscina estupenda. El desayuno muy bueno. La habitación amplia.

Tanto el edificio como el entorno son espectaculares aunque el acceso es complicado por la carretera y la ubicación. Dormir es difícil por los mosquitos. Echamos en falta servicio de cena.

El lugar es espectacular. Unas vistas increíble y la Quinta tiene mucho encanto. La dueña del lugar y el personal muy atentos

El hecho de que no se puede comer ahí y en algunas cosas ya se le nota sus añitos (pero es normal al ser un lugar tradicional de encanto)

The view was great, including the view from our small balcony. The grounds were nice too. Breakfast was home-cooked with a variety of treats over our 4-day stay.

It smelled very musty in some places. We couldn't go in the library because the smell was too strong of dusty books. The downstairs lounge had furniture from decades ago and was not inviting. Our bathroom toilet smelled of bad drains or something like that. Keeping all windows open was a must. Getting into the shower was awkward because it is kind of behind the actual toilet. Access was very hard on two levels. First, Sintra's one-way system makes it hard to get to most places - one wrong move and you are stuck on a 30 minute loop because you can't turn. Secondly, the long, dirt track that takes you down to the hotel requires skill and concentration, and abdominal muscles for the bumps. When you arrive, the sign is missing so you are not sure if you've found the place. The attitude to fixing and repairing is poor.

Dear Teresa and your kind Staff, especially Sidalia and the other ladies taking care of us every day there! Thank you very much for having us in your beautiful family estate. We all appreciate the beauty and the tranquility of this place. I will not be able to set myself free from the magic spell your house cast on me, I know that being back in my everyday reality will be difficult now, you and your house took me somewhere else, somewhere beyond the craziness of the outside world. I love soaking in history. And I was able to do it here! Thank you for spending some nice time with us in the evenings too! My partner is grateful for your swimming pool in such wonderful surroundings, you know yourself that it was really hard to drag him out of it. My teenage children will also remember you and your atmospheric house for long. I wish my son hadn’t been so shy! He would have played the piano more! We would love to come back in the future!

The authorities responsible for the roads in the area could spend some money on the renovation of the road leading to the property.
