"Comfortable, clean and helpful staff"

8.0

We stayed here for 3 days while visiting WW1 battlefields and Bruges. We found the hotel comfortable and clean and the staff were very helpful. The hotel is a 10 minute walk into the town centre and has its own secure car park. The hotel building is modern and slightly lacking in atmosphere. Breakfast was included in the price and was good but not fabulous. Overall a good place to stay in a convenient location

"Great Jacuzzi - no food"

8.0

I stayed on Monday evening. The food offering at the hotel was limited to PIzza and chips. Although the hotel offerred information on local restaurants they are all closed on Monday. So I managed to find a takeaway and got a portion of chips - not what I really wanted. They upgraded me to the Jacuzzi room - which I totally recommend. I would stay again - but not on Monday.

"Down and out in Menen"

6.0

Down and out in Menen, not the locations fault but I searched for a hotel in Ypres and this one came up on the search. I thought that it was near the Menen gate in Ypres so I booked it on my tablet. My mistake as I was using my tablet and short on wi fi time.

"Convenient for town and transport links"

6.0

I booked this to be close to a friend who lives in the town but also as a base to explore the area. It is not too far from the French ferry ports, Dunkirk in particular though the route feel a little cross country and suburban. Motorways seem a little short in this part of Belgium so don't get too excited when it feels like you are suddenly moving, you shall be on an ordinary two way traffic road shortly. The greeting at the hotel was very welcoming and professional. They seem to adapt to clients personal needs and personality. English is very good and was a relief at the end of each day with the confusion of language out and about. It was quiet during my March visit and that, in my opinion, was an issue. I was quite looking forward to relaxing in the bar of an evening but, because it was quiet, the bar was closed. The only food was from vending machines and one which dispensed crisps and chocolates quite frequently didn't dispense anything and kept the money but the staff on the desk refunded it not problem. Vending machines are what they are and, staying alone it gave me the feeling of isolation. Of an evening I'd say it is a little too far to walk into town and the nearby cafés didn't look up to much. The room was very spacious with a double bed, desk, chair, and WiFi (free). The TV had some English channels. They also have soap, shower gel etc and hair dryer. For a double bed the pillows were very small and only two of them. I am sure one could acquire more for the sake of asking. It did make sleeping a little uncomfortable as I think most UK residents are used to larger pillows than that. Car parking isn't huge and, I'd imagine if the place were more booked, parking could be a serious issue as there didn't seem to be any alternative nearby. Breakfast was adequate and quite varied, no reason to go hungry. I drove to both Brugge and Lille during my visit, both easy drives even in blizzard conditions.

"Surprisingly pleasant find!"

8.0

Nestling in a sleepy wee town kissing the French border. This small family hotel provided a very pleasant stay. Family owned, slightly eccentric Flanders staff but very happy to look after you. Rooms were a little dated but comfortable, quiet and clean. Breakfast was basic but fine. Neighbourhood nothing to write home about but there is restaurants and bars at the other side of the town - 10 minute walk. Free wi fi did the trick too! Would be a handy stop off heading towards Lille - Britain and you want to avoid the madness that is the Antwerp ring roads....also handy if you wanted to hit Gent and avoid again the dreaded Antwerp hell! Note: Speak mostly French in this part but coped very easily with English too!

"Lack of staff a problem!"

2.0

I have never stayed in a worse hotel. The hotel was basically abandoned at 11pm and I had to phone the hotel from my mobile the next morning to get staff to open the dining area, serve breakfast and check-out. The hotel's credit card system did not work and I am still waiting for them to send me a receipt.

"strange city"

6.0

Menen is not really a bustling place but the in-room information at the hotel tried to make out that it was. It would be good to cross-check the distances it quotes to the nearby restaurants that it lists, because they peoved hard to find. We settled for a very good Italian place - Al Ghiottone - on the basis that it was the first eating establishment we cme across in our walk - wheaqreas the hotel guide implied at least 2 or 3 others closer. Rooms were very good but there is not much service in evidence. Maybe it really only caters for coach/tour groups.

"A grim experience"

2.0

Not up to 4 star status. They could not find our Expedia booking to start with. The hotel has no restaurant and is half a mile walk from the town centre where there were no restaurants open that we could find on a June weekday evening. Breakfast was chaotic - food wasn't replaced as it was eaten and there was only one staff member on who couldn't cope. There was no hot water at 6.0 pm nor the next morning. On the plus side, the room was very big with a huge TV flat screen and two very comfortable chairs to view it.
