"Salzburg"

10.0

Nice place. Easy to find. Sat Nav bought us straight here. Really great staff, got stuck in a 4 hour delay at tunnel to enter Austria rang hotel to say we may be later than the 10pm latest check in time & they were great, they put our key in a safe outside the hotel & gave us the combination. We arrived at 1 am & got straight in. Check-in is 2 minutes up the road, which we did the next morning & booked a second night with no trouble at all, giving us a chance to see this beautiful place. Breakfast was lovely, good mix of food on offer. Reception staff are friendly & helpful. Bus stop to town just up the road, less than 2 minutes walk. Bought tickets at shop outside bus stop, but they are also available from reception. Bank opposite bus stop also. Came back from a wonderful day out & found our room had been cleaned & beds made. Would recommend.

"Could have been great"

6.0

I have mixed feelings about writing this review, because I was so very excited about our stay at the Hotel zur Post, this being our first big trip with our 10 month old baby. We decided that it was the right choice for us because it is advertised as a family business and when my husband found what was described as a studio in the hotel, we were more than happy to book it for 10 days. Unfortunately, when we got there, we were told that the studio is NOT located inside the hotel, but in a different building 10 minutes away. Arriving at 7PM after a day's trip with a baby and having to carry all your stuff down the road was not great, but we decided it was not going to interfere with our excitement. However, when we entered the studio, we realised that they had NOT cleaned the room and we could not even put down the baby, because of the mess and because the cot we had asked for would only be ready the next day. After talking with the receptionist and later with the manager, we were told it was a mistake and that they would get someone to clean asap, so we should go spend some time visiting (not fun after a long day flying with a baby, but we said OK). About an hour later we came back and the room looked better, but not like you would expect when thinking about hotel cleanliness and the fresh feeling you get when you enter a room. The cot was also provided at this point but I have to say that the feeling of un-clean stayed with me during our entire stay. Management offered us a 100 EUR discount and free breakfast on the following day. Breakfast was OK (bio and fresh), but overpriced for the variety it offers. Another minus was the fact that during our entire stay, nobody came to check on us or clean the room until 7 days after checking in. We bought our own trash bags and put the trash out. Hotel's explanation to this was the fact that we booked a studio so we had to deal with cleaning ourselves! This had not been transparent at all during the booking process, since we booked a studio at Hotel Zur Post, and not short term rented a studio in villa Ceconi (where we were sent). Nobody travels with a baby and wants to do housekeeping at the same time! All in all, it was pretty disappointing, along with the fact that the manager kept telling us that it's not the end of the world, it's a mistake, etc but in a tone that tried to make us feel guilty for not just going with things as they were. Did not feel the "family business" atmosphere one would expect, especially when traveling with a baby. I will only post the photos of the "after-cleaning" process, which was not thorough at all. The toilet still had pee marks on it (I cleaned it myself) and we found long black hairs in the "new" bed-sheets (neither of us is black haired and the house-keeper was also blonde). The beautiful attic windows on top of our bed had not been cleaned in ages, too.

"Quiet spot"

8.0

The room was comfortable and quiet. Unfortunately breakfast was 200 metres down the road which would have been terrible had it been raining. A good 40 minute walk out of the city but still central enough for our needs.

"Comfortable Stay"

8.0

We traveled in a group of four and stayed at Villa Ceconi for four nights. It's very close to the bus stop. The accommodation is clean and spacious. The only downside is that we had to walk to the main hotel building which was approx. 5 min away (in the snow) to get the keys.

"Decent place to stay if you have a car"

8.0

We booked last minute and this was one of the few choices left that was affordable and has free parking. Walking to town is really far, so it is OK only with car, but parking for a day in town will cost 20+ euros. This is an old building that was totally renovated back around 2008. So everything in the room was relatively new and clean. But there was no elevator. So you will have to drag your luggage up the stairs if you have a room upstairs. When we arrived, we could not find reception. We ringed the bell labelled reception and there was nothing. Luckily, a couple was coming back and told us that reception is 200m down the road at Hotel zur Post at Maxglaner Hauptstraße 45. Breakfast was not included, but offered at 12 euro at Hotel zue Post. We checked it out the next morning and opted to find breakfast in town. WiFi is slow and feeble like in most hotels in Austria. Good thing I have bought a local SIM card to tether my own WiFi. Neighborhood does not offer much although there are a few restaurants within walking distance.

"Pleasant Fortnight"

8.0

The Villa Ceconi is situated a mile away from the Old Town with a very good bus service (NOs 1 or 10) in or of course you can hire a bike (recommended) from the parent hotel (Hotel Zur Post) which is where you check in and is another 200m out of town on the other side of the road. My apartment on the top floor was beautifully clean with a small kitchenette and six large skylights. These skylights are very important as there is not air conditioning: however throw open these chaps and the temperature (I was there in a heat wave) is not too bad although the occasional bug flew in. I had breakfast one morning at the main Hotel and it was good and the staff are thoroughly friendly and helpful. I loved my time in Salzburg and would not hesitate going back to a Ceconi top floor apartment.

"Well priced."

8.0

It was a single night in Salzburg and the accommodation is well priced, especially considering the free parking so close to the centre of Salzburg. It was inconvienent that the checkin in was a few 100 meters down the road from the hotel though.

"OK, but Wifi was very dodgy"

6.0

Very much an "annex" to the main "Hotel zur Post". Stayed for one night while on a cycle tour. This was the only hotel I stayed in in Austria which had temperamental Wif connection. Otherwise room was OK

"If you can endure lectures from the other hotel's front desk..."

4.0

The first problem with “Hotel” Villa Ceconi is that there are no staff on-site. I arrived at the door to discover that I needed to walk down the road around the bend to a different hotel to check-in. Or so I was told by an annoyed voice I reached via an intercom by the door. If you are unlucky enough to be dropped off without a car (like me), it's a nuisance carrying your baggage to the other hotel and back. Admittedly, it didn't help that I arrived during a rare heat wave in Salzburg. After failing to find the second hotel and returning to the intercom for clarification, I eventually found Hotel zur Post, where the front desk manager gave me a lecture for not having read my confirmation email in detail. Except I had read it entirely. I showed him on my phone that the only address was for Villa Ceconi, but he didn't want to read it. Instead, he asserted that it was there somewhere, because this happens often. I pointed out that if it happens often they should probably do something about it, but there was no winning this debate so I took my keycard and walked back to Villa Ceconi. I should say that the room was fine. It was reasonably modern and clean. The price was affordable, but accordingly the location is not desirable. Unfortunately, my walking trips to Hotel zur Post were not over. When I returned from dinner I discovered that my keycard no longer worked, which meant another jaunt down the road. This time I got a lecture on how I didn't know how to use a keycard, and that it was “impossible” that it didn't work. I skipped pointing out that I'd already been in my room and asked him to please just reprogram it. I walked back to the “hotel,” and got into my room without a problem. Only then, did I discover that the Internet didn't work. Tired of making the trek to the other hotel, I looked for the room phone, but there wasn't one. That was probably my fault too, so I just went to bed.
