Sugar Hotel

We stayed at this hotel during the height of the countries load-shedding (power issues) and quickly realized it was one of the only hotels in the area without a generator so the hotel was without power during peak times. When we tried to move they gave us a hard time about refunding us for our nights we were cancelling but eventually we did get our refund. Also worth noting only certain rules have access to the pool, something we didn't know in advance.

Service and comfort exceeded our expectations! Highly recommended!

The hotel is wonderful and the staff are very friendly. It was better then we had imagined. The location is perfect.

The hotel is well located in a safe and convenient street. Our room was quiet (double glazing). The breakfast was excellent. Staff are wonderful.

A small boutique property with beautifully-appointed rooms. The only strange thing was our bathroom was as big as our room and freezing cold (it’s winter) because there is only one small rack heater mounted on the wall, and that didn’t even heat up properly. I had the quickest hot shower in my life that morning!

This is a near 5-star hotel at a reasonable price. I booked one of the rooms with a patio and "plunge pool" (clearly weather dependent!). It was small but beautifully cared for by housekeeping staff. Nice bedding, but too many decorator pillows! My only issue was a noisy couple that came in late on the second night, staying in the adjoining patio room. It was a wonderful, warm night and they spent the middle of the night enjoying that patio - there is inadequate soundproofing between rooms for that level of fun, and none of the patrons are on the patio. Otherwise - the restaurant and included breakfast were superb, especially on the deck. Room service excellent. Front desk staff very helpful. Depending on your walking speed the waterfront is about a 15-20 minute walk. Be aware that you CANNOT cross all the road lanes except by walking down 2-3 blocks to a traffic light (fencing!). Then it's 4-5 blocks more, farther to the Aquarium. Check map. Very safe. $8 by taxi if it's raining! Try UBER if you have phone service. I would return to this hotel without question! Oh - there are two extremely friendly yellow Lab 'greeters'. ;-)

The location was excellent - walking distance to the Waterfront and Long Street. The breakfast was great too xxx
