The Speech House Hotel

Beautiful place, with excellent staff. We were unluckily because they celebrate weddings and we arrive with a wedding on-going. The music was fine (not too loud) the guest were fine, normal noise for a wedding. The kids fron the wedding were under our window, playing shouting and screaming (normal for kids) but it was very late night and very early morninig so we did not have too much rest. We will come back but we will make sure is not a wedding day.

Slept super well, room sufficient for our needs. Delighted to find an electric fan in the room as the day was very hot. Food excellent at dinner and much appreciated the gentleman who looked after us- a great sense of humour.

Went for Sunday lunch, very disappointed. If you are looking for very basic pub grub in huge quantities this is the place for you, but if you are looking for something special look elsewhere. We ordered scotch egg for starter it was far to large, cold and very bland, the roast beef mains included large quantity of reasonably cooked beef, cold hard roast potatoes, overcooked and dried out yorkshire puddings and mountains of ok veggies but again very cool. It's a shame but we will not be going back despite it being fairly local.

From the moment we arrived at our Wedding Venue, Speech House provided us with comforts and kindness. Our Day was a wonderful celebration of excellent food and wine along with many laughs with such happy, efficient and friendly staff. Thank you everyone.

Memorable stay at The Speech House over the weekend. The Taittinger Champagne experience in the garden on Saturday was quite superb with perfect food pairings and lots of interesting information supplied by the team from Taittinger - highly recommended when it repeats next year.... Staff were really friendly and attentive, food in the Verderers' Restaurant in the evening was great and after a hearty breakfast on Sunday morning we enjoyed a walk in the forest before heading home. We had an excellent stay and experience this weekend- We stayed for 3 nights in a courtyard 4 poster room which was clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed dinner and breakfasts which were all of a high standard. The champagne picnic on Saturday afternoon was great - we loved relaxing outdoors with perfect weather, learning about the particular Taittinger champagnes and then drinking them, as well as eating the delicious food that was paired with the drink. Great to see the Taittinger hot air balloon , listen to music and partake of the outdoor games too! The highlight of the weekend , as always is the performance of the staff who are friendly and efficient and a credit to you. We look forward to our next stay- Thanks

Absolute amazing time at The Speech House on Saturday. We attended the Champagne Picnic event they were hosting which was just amazing! The hotel offers so much warmth and character, the staff are so polite and work super super hard, my partner and I loved every moment of it! We will defiantly be staying again!

We just had the most amazing weekend at the Speech House Hotel, attending the Champagne Picnic, Welcomed on arrival by a very friendly receptionist,who was very informative and directed us to our rooms. Our room was out of the main house in a peaceful area at the bottom of the grounds close to a beautiful field with the start of the forest beyond that. The room was perfect, a lovely 4 poster bed, which was very comfortable, Bathroom was clean and very well presented and the room itself was very clean and fresh. We attended the picnic which was just the most idealic setting and great atmosphere. Later that evening we ate in the orangery, I had the Steak which was presented and cooked perfectly. Had a great night's sleep. The venue was amazing the staff were super friendly and helpful. All in all a great weekend, we will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you so much for creating what we thought was the perfect weekend break. 😊

This is such a lovely hotel. Ate at Verdeers restaurant and the food was delicious. Staff are so caring and courteous, special heads up to lovely Chas who booked us in and kindly organised an accessible room for us oldies, and our sweet waitress Rebecca, a charming young lady, thanks again, it was a pleasure to meet you. We'll definitely be back!

We have stayed in the speech House Hotel over the yrs, going back to 2015, we decided to give it another try for one night. We really wish we hadn't, we were put in the Cottage...not recommend at all, the beds were so hard I slept on the sofa which was a 2 seater! bathroom was tiny, and I mean tiny! you could hardly get into the shower as the bath is very close to the wall, the shower runs off the bath taps, the toilet holder fell off the wall. The beds were rammed into the room and the curtains couldn't close because the beds were in the way. The TV, which tbh couldn't be described as one was ancient, and only had 1 channel that worked! We ate in the Orangery, the food portions meagre and no choice if you were a vegetarian. The vegetarian burger offered was awful literally butter nut squash in a bun. My husbands chicken leg was tiny, the whole meal was very small and if it wasnt for the extra chips he ordered he would have been starving. We waited 3/4 of an Hour for our coffee. The staff were run off their feet, and kept apologising as we were still waiting for coffee 45 minuites after ordering it. The only good point of the experience was the friendlies of the staff. However, there was confusion as to the bill even though we had paid for DBB and had a meal allowance which more than covered what we ate. They even queried our drinks which we paid for on ordering. I did tell the staff on checking out that I had slept on the sofa due to the beds being like boards. I have to say the staff were lovely, however we will not visit again. It always has been a dated hotel, it hasn't changed. We left the hotel £220 lighter, and hardly any sleep certainly not what you hope for from a break.
